0 I'm finishing to build my first brushless quad and have some questions about the basic checkup to make before powering the quad for the first time.
I want to know if you can give me somes tips about what I have to check before pluggin my battery for the first time so I can limit the risk of damaging the components or to see smoke from my quad.
These are the the things I have made so far :
- Check the solders to be sure ther are strong and seems to have a good connection
- Check with my multimeter the continuity at the battery's connection (no beeping).
- Check the continuity between the ESC and PDB (beeping)
Is these things are good and usefull to limit the risk to burn something on the quad?
I know some people use a "smoke stopper" but I did not have build one yet.
Thanks a lot for your help!
P.S. Sorry for my english

34 I visually check that polarity is correct, then continuity, plug in a smoke stopper and a battery. The smoke stopper has saved my equipment a couple of times, so I would highly recommend getting one. I use a 12V 10W bulb

0 Also, its simple but can catch you - make sure none of the components are touching the carbon fiber frame.

0 It's easier to do than you'd think, right?! Especially if the build is taxing mentally... you've been diving into complexities working your brain. Sometimes its easy to skip the simple stuff when all you're considering is the advanced bits.

44 I was building a quad lately. I wanted to use a 30AWG wire, but I had only yellow. All I did was checked polarity. Just that. For every wire. 10 times xD

0 Thanks for you suggestions.
I have another question about the "smoke stopper ". I have decided to make one and it's works great.
I use an AOI camera and VTX, the Eachine TX02 and when I plug it and also my receiver on the quad with the smoke stopper, after 2-3 seconds The ligth begin To ligth up. If I just plug the Receiver the light don't light up.
Is it normal that light turn on with camera/vtx?

0 Ok! In my case, do you have an idea of what can cause the problem? I have check two times my solders for the camera ?

34 It is normal that the bulb will light up when powering a VTX. here is an example:
You have a 12V 10W bulb and if you power it, you will draw about 1amp and it will light up fully.
A VTX draws probably around 500mAh (depending on the VTX), and if you connect a 12V 10W bulb in series with the VTX, 500mAh will go through the bulb, making it light up not as much as if it was a short. A bulb works as a current limiter because the resistance in the bulb will increase the hotter it gets untill it reaches a point where it doesn't let any more current through. That is why it works as a current limiter. So with a 12V 10W bulb, you will only be able to run roughly 1amp through the circuit.
