Thanks everyone for your advice and encouragement. I couldn't have built it without intoFPV's help. Unseen you especially always help us all so much and on this build you've easily put in at least half of the lessons I needed to learn to get it done. After reviewing video I see that I do have work to do with the tune... I am going to work on that this weekend from the park though. I happen to have found an old 12 foot USB cable and I think I have an idea on how to tune without having to remove props each time. (There is a safety barrier made of mesh fence that will be a great place to thread a long USB cable through) Here is the maiden flight video (also updated OP) carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 Posts: 1,149 Threads: 50 Likes Received: 704 in 450 posts Likes Given: 1,189 Joined: Sep 2016 Reputation: 30 Hm, just never have lipo plugged in while connected to laptop (or phone or what you are using), then nothing can happen... BTW first thing i do is keep the PID relatively loose, but adjust filters instead, basically to not misinterpret noise oscillations as PID oscillations. Adjusting filters doesn't take more than a few clean punchouts while logging and then looking at the noise spektrum in blackbox explorer. It's really not as complicated as it may sound at first... i should write a quick & dirty step by step guide i guess, if there isn't one on this forum yet. I forgot that I can do that because my other one didn't connect without lipo being plugged in. You just made it much easier. Also I forgot about filters... so much to remember... I'll work on that first and then go from there. A step-by-step guide on it would be great even if I end up getting to it first it'd help to confirm after the fact. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • Posts: 1,149 Threads: 50 Likes Received: 704 in 450 posts Likes Given: 1,189 Joined: Sep 2016 Reputation: 30 Here you go: http://intofpv.com/t-adjusting-filters-q...n-progress Consider it as a work in progress but i hope it helps. • Posts: 1,590 Threads: 89 Likes Received: 1,283 in 768 posts Likes Given: 1,274 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 31 Great! I will definitely try it out this weekend. I may swap out my standoffs to the rubberized ones that I got too just to see. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • Posts: 88 Threads: 5 Likes Received: 97 in 44 posts Likes Given: 66 Joined: Jun 2016 Reputation: 2 great build! how are them motors? • Posts: 1,590 Threads: 89 Likes Received: 1,283 in 768 posts Likes Given: 1,274 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 31 (17-May-2017, 08:55 PM)ZERONEST Wrote: great build! how are them motors? I only have 2 batteries on them so far but they're great. Very responsive... I can't really compare to the lumeniers on the Vortex as the weight difference is so significant that I can tell just by holding them so its apples to oranges. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • Posts: 1,590 Threads: 89 Likes Received: 1,283 in 768 posts Likes Given: 1,274 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 31 I spent somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 hours today flying... I went through 15 batteries, only 3 made it into the Vortex... I had to solder ESC joints, re-mount my VTx, change props, re-zip-tie camera mount, and other little repairs... but... today... I did the best flying I've ever done! The only way I can compare it is when I was learning how to race... early on everyone told me "keep learning on your street tires... race tires will just cover up issues and cause you to develop bad habits"... well... starting with the vortex was much like starting with street tires... now... with the bumble bee... it's like running R-Comps... SRS Bizniz control... and just... wow... I mean... WOW!... I can't describe the feeling... but Ill try anyway... If you were to put confidence, agility, badbuttery (I am complying with language rules, forgive me for odd word... yay for new rule ) and just plain WOW in a bag... that's what it felt like kinda... plus all the other happy feelings too... I am working on the video... but it needs a special new song so while I've got the cuts in the video done I wont be posting it right away because I need the right music for the first go of this quad. This thing is fast, and nimble, and light, and feels like a true joy to fly. I am also super grateful that I started on something heavier and tougher. The Vortex has really served its purpose and will absolutely continue to be my gate-practice quad!... I am still scared to run the bumble bee through the gates (although I did once... no crash) oh gosh... the feelings of euphoria after a great day of flying of your first build turning out to be super awesome... I can't compare it to much other than maybe the first time I made top-10 in PAX at an autocross race. I even created a new trick... It was inspired by other videos but I kind of took what I saw and over-emphasized it and I don't think I've seen anyone else do it quite like I did yet... Video to come soon. I know I am gushing... but how could I not? carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 Posts: 2,410 Threads: 136 Likes Received: 1,790 in 1,052 posts Likes Given: 3,302 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 50 Can't wait! Data limits suck! I don't know what I would do if I had data limits that I hit at home... I can sort of tolerate it on my phone but I need my data on my laptop or I'd die... I think Comcast gives me a few hundred gigs though so I never seem to run out. Using a similar framework to the build you're working on the only thing I would change if I were to build another one right now is the ESCs... and that's not because there is something wrong with them but because of some of the soldering issues I've had. I might also use the diatone PDB instead of the stock one. So despite the fact that I built the thing with less than $200 worth of parts its still a great little quad carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 |
