buying new radio TX: Taranis or DX6?
#1
So I've been wanting a new controller for some time now and I do like spektrum but my old dx6i is not performing very well.

So I was looking at the new ones or maybe a Taranis. The new dx6 says it has telemetry but is it the same as a Taranis telemetry? Signal strength, voltage. Things like that... has anyone use one with telemetry on there mini quad?

I love my dx6, in my opinion the taranis feels cheaply made.

Spektrums telemetry is used with their telemetry module as well as the receiver. The Taranis has rx's with telemetry built in. The Taranis does better if you go long range. You will have to learn the Taranis, not as easy as Spektrum but will have no limits.

however both are great radios, you can't go wrong with either.

I have a Jr 9503, Dx6i and a taranis.
9503 for helicopters, dx6i for my quick bind and fly stuff, but for everything else I use the Taranis, feels cheap but the sky is the limit, as soon as I put sometime to learn the helicopter stuff my Jr is going to collect dust, yes jr is a better quality radio.

The DX6 telemetry not only needs a separate bulky module you need to put on the quad (TM1000) but will NOT give you RSSI. It will give you a missed signal count, but that is no good to man nor beast during a flight!

As a spektrum owner, taranis is definitely the way to go for multirotors.
Taranis has shitty hardware but it's not noticeable to the average person. All that said, the telemetry functions of the Taranis are enviable and almost worth considering one on that basis alone.

Spektrum doesn't have rssi and you need the seperate telemetry module while taranis has rssi and rxs with telemetry built in.

plus the Taranis has a sexy female voice with a British accent. when ever you turn it on you hear, "welcome to open tx". to me that translates into, "I like the way your hands feel on my body."  Big Grin
no but seriously, you can't go wrong with a Taranis.

Go with a Taranis X9D plus, you will not regret it. Using XSR receiver with SBUS is the best choice right now Smile

I've used a few different tx radios. By far the best has been my taranis x9d plus.
Its reliable . It's also designed by fpv guys.

The Taranis can have any kind of voice and say anything you want when you turn it on....mine says "Greetings master, time to go kick some ass" in a very creepy monster type voice. hahaha

Seriously for the OP, many out there do not like Frskys "logic", but it is a very flexible radio that you can be configured to do most anything for most any model. I'm still learning all the ends and outs of it, but I do not regret the purchase at all! : )

And I shall throw a spanner in the works.

Futaba 14SG, awesome radio. but no sexy british voice or australian sheila saying "u beaudy, go flying mate"

I had the Taranis, and while I tried to get used to it, I ended up hating it as I had been spoilt by Futaba.

But, a huge cost difference. Can buy 3 Taranis for what I paid for the 14SG.

But out of the DX6I and a Taranis, go for the Taranis. (be warned though..huge learning curve to it)
