The really nice thing is that you can just connect battery voltage (up to 3S) to the A2 input and use that to trigger a battery low alarm on your radio. Just perfect for micro builds where you don't have room for a buzzer! Am I seeing that correctly? everything is pre-tinned? For someone with my skill level of soldering that would be amazing! All you have to do in order to activate SBus or PPM is to make a solder bridge or a jumper on one of those points up top? Pretty cool Yep! Everything was pre-tinned if I remember correctly. It's still a fiddly soldering job, but having a fine tip and using 30AWG silicone insulated wire makes the job a lot easier. It also helps that the points you need to bridge are at the edge of the board. That way, there's far less risk of accidentally desoldering one of those tiny 0402 sized components and finding it on the end of your tip instead of on the board where it should be! • Posts: 347 Threads: 26 Likes Received: 354 in 189 posts Likes Given: 8 Joined: Jun 2016 Reputation: 13 03-Jun-2017, 09:12 AM (This post was last modified: 03-Jun-2017, 11:30 AM by Aaron.) This is the same camera in mine, mounted on the opposite side of the plate. The finger is holding it in the correct position (angle of the plate with top deck on). More pics here: http://intofpv.com/t-building-uavfutures...3#pid24103 There's just enough lens protrusion to I think have a clear image. Reviving my original build thread - Have the final piece on its way, the FrSky XM+ RX. FC and ESC's updated. Should be here tomorrow or Monday. A quick update on the RX and the KT-210 will be airborne! I look forward to having the 5" in the air and to feel the difference from the 2" craft that are my staple now. Aaron, thank you for the example of your camera mounting. I followed this lead and mine is mounted this way now. A lot more protection for the lens barrel! It will make the quad tail heavy and although the flight controller can compensate for poor weight distribution, it's not ideal and will make two motors always work harder than the other two. Unless I take the RX from my 2", it will be a few days before it is in the air. I will move the batt strap forward then. I was also measuring to see if a future HD camera would fit. I really feel like I am moving into something new with the 5". SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! "There she goes again...only this one is louder!". I have several surrounding land owners who have given me overflight permissions and they come out sometimes to watch me fly. My friend Lisa is always interested in "where is she going with it now?", which is fun. I think they do not really mind my little ones as they are not too loud and really small enough to not raise concerns. Not sure how they will feel with the bigger framed model. We will see when it is up there buzzing around. Have to say that it was an incredible leap to go from a camera platform to the brushless Lizard 95. I do not feel like this will be a huge leap from there...but then, I am only guessing! SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! Most of my 5" craft are fairly quiet until I put the hammer down. At full throttle, you can probably hear my Chameleon's scream a whole mile away with no problem at all! The Lizard 95 is pretty fast, but your new machine should be quite a bit faster once you get moving. Switched them In B-Helli and then tested again. Satisfied that it was reacting as it should, I installed some cheap props for testing. I hovered it for a few minutes and checked the motors...all seemed good. Drifted it out in to the yard and then brought it back. All slow for the moment. It feels like a handful right now as it feels much louder and powerful when compared to my 95mm and 110mm brushless. I will be taking some time to learn it. It makes sense that I take it to a larger open area and I doubt this will be flown around the home. It sounds like it needs some tuning. Something is out of sync a little, but it hovered fine. Also noted some lines in the video feed. Will be adding a cap to the incoming XT-60 connector. Soldered a quick disconnect wiring harness so that I could use the RX from KT-110 and this allowed me to fire it up. I have a dedicated RX being delivered tomorrow, another XM+. Am leaning towards installing a R-XSR and utilizing the XM+ as a redundant. Right now, am running BetaFlight 3.2.2, stock PID's with only custom modes programmed. Another thing I noticed, no OSD. I have a 20x20 MW-OSD/VTX (200mw) board here that I can solder in for now so that I get some status data. I would rather stick with BF-OSD really as that is what I have grown used to with my other two brushless. Despite the little issues, like seriously happy right now! To say you have come a long way since then would be an understatement! Back then, would you have imagined yourself blithely saying "Soldered a quick disconnect wiring harness..."? Great to hear that the maiden flight went well. It sounds like you very quickly felt how differently these larger quads handle. Part of it is the weight - that extra inertia is quite a suprise when you're used to flying micro quads. Big spaces and enough altitude for a mistake are a great idea. Crashing can be a far more expensive and destructive event with the extra weight and although it will inevitably happen, minimising the chances until you've really got a feel for it is a good idea. Congratulations on a good build! Posts: 3,288 Threads: 129 Likes Received: 2,740 in 1,644 posts Likes Given: 2,969 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 65 Thanx UnSeen!!! I really felt like I was never going to figure things out as I started to look into drones that were not complete kits. I remember that first post regarding a burned motor on my JYU! LOL...I was so freaked out as I started to fix it and thought I was on a cloud when it finally flew. Leaps and bounds! I feel like it is now the next pahse of actually figuring out how to fly! So here is the first real flight. I had hovered it for a pack, recharged it and then decided to fly around a little. Completely underwhelmed by the camera and VTX...a spoiled brat after flying my RunCam for all this time on the 2". The video actually starts at about 45 seconds, so I would suggest stepping to that point. For my lack of liking of the current video system, I am so totally stocked to be flying my creation!!!!!!!!! it really is just a matter of changing out what I do not like for a better setup. Any suggestions on a VTX that is variable 200 to 600 mw? Would like it to mount to the existing stack (there is room). Also, is there a board that can add Betaflight OSD that is not a complete FC?
