Building the best Freestyle quad
#1
Hello everyone! I'm planning to build the best possible freestyle quad so I need your advice on what to use before I build. So far I have:

Armattan Chameleon frame
DYS F4 flight controller
Littlebees 30a with dshot 1200
Mr steele motors
Runcam swift II
TBS triumph antenna
ImmersionRC Tramp HV video transmitter
FrSky X4R-SB receiver

What do you think? Should I change something before I build?

Hi Gianpa......I have the same frame and I am also using the Swift II. I fits in the cage perfectly. I am also using the Tramp and it works great. I can't really speak to the rest of the stuff because mine is different. The only thing I will say is that I am using the XSR receiver and I think it's a little smaller then the one you have listed and space is at a premium in this build. Food for thought. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I have the same frame.  Used the same FC.  X4R-SB should fit on top of the FC.  As for the Tramp, I don't think you have the room behind the FC for it. I used TBS Unify Race, which is smaller.  The Matek VTX probably will fit nicely.

Here is how I placed all of my components.

I think with builds there comes a point where you're using all quality components where the build is sort of what I consider "pro quality" (I say it's what I consider just because I couldn't think of another way to describe it). You've crossed that line with these components and so I'd say you've got a great build planned.

From there though you sort of have to have a target in mind as to "best" and it's kind of subjective... It depends on what elements you want it to outperform like speed, looks, responsiveness, reliability, etc.

From a looks perspective I've always thought that quads built on the Armattan Chameleon frame look great so you're definitely going down a good path there! Also I've seen a video that compares the Mr Steel motors to a couple of other types of motors (both of which I use) and the person who was reviewing them said after a blind test that the Mr Steel motors were their favorite for freestyle responsiveness.

So I think you're definitely on a good path after following some of the advice above.

I will concur with the change of the receiver to the XSR though. Might as well go smaller, and sometimes you can get them for pretty cheap https://hobbyking.com/en_us/frsky-xsr-2-...eiver.html

I started out with the TBS, but I couldn't get very good performance out of it for whatever reason.  I switched to the Tramp and after I lengthened the ant. lead so I could maneuver it a little better it fit behind the FC, but it is a little tight.

Good to know that Tramp will fit.

Thank you for all the replies!

So basically everyone agrees that I have to buy a smaller receiver, everyone is suggesting XSR, what about XM plus? I'm new to FrSky as I've been using Spektrum until now (I don't even know why I'm changing, spektrum works fine).

Also, will the trump definitely fit? I already have one I don't want to spend 45 pounds for the TBS unify if it doesn't fit significantly better   Rolleyes

Any other change you suggest?

Sirdude said the Tramp will fit.

XM plus doesn't have telemetry. For the price XSR is great. Should only be $15 usd.

Ok.....O've tried two different computers and nighter pne would allow me to use the Upload Image function, so I had to reduce the image sizes and add them as attachemtns, but....here they are...

I found the image loader can be brutally slow. I usually have to reduce the photo to around 1mb or less.

The ones I started with were only about 800K and it was having issues with those.  I reduced them down to VGA status (250K +/-) .  It still would not handle those...had to add them as attachments.......

Most times it looks like imagur isn't doing anything, but if you walk alway it will upload. Anymore than a few minutes, it is not going to work.

I gave it about 5 minutes before I gave up.  Oh well, I go the pics up so the OP can take a look at them.
