Building a first wing. Noob mode on :)
#16
Can't fly in stabilized. Either the settings are bad, I made some stupid mistake or just betaflight is just not fit to the task - I suspect the latest code commit for fixed wing craft was made by Hydra in the times of cleanflight, so... I will probably look for a better FC for that thing and try inav.

After a bit of trimming, I was able to fly a bit in passtrough mode, the following was my longest flight so far Big Grin

I have to get rid of my quadcopter habits like lowering the throttle on a roll.

That was Runcam HD censorship, but that crash was nothing fancy, after next crash I saw the servo wire cut by the wooden canopy part, maybe it has lost contact for a moment as the craft just rolled to one side and smashed to the ground.

After using another ton of hot glue to fix the wing I bastardized entire FPV system from the currently not-flying Airblade Assault 130, soldered some new wires on, added another regulated power supply to feed the camera and OSD.

OSD is not working, but suprisingly I have the feed in the goggles.

Parts list:
  • 2-year-old Aomway 200mw with a direct soldered DIY cloverleaf
  • dead or not working Micro MinimOSD (but it passes the video signal, yay)
  • BG micro camera
  • regulated power supply set to 4.95
  • wire spaghetti
A pic of my elegant work:

Yeah, I should fix the OSD issue or remove it, desolder everything and make it at least a bit cleaner. But it's working, I don't care Smile

When you learn that your motor has too much torque. That literally exploded in my hand ;D

A not so fancy motor mount:

And looks like new:

I added a buzzer btw. Crashing and repairing this thing with "junk" is so much fun Big Grin

It's certainly more fixable than the Flite Test Mini Arrow that I've been crashing!

After the fourth time I ripped it in half, it would have needed more hot glue and tape than is reasonable to get it back together again, so I saved the servos and other electronics and scrapped the frame.

Today i've seen the true purpose of this wing,
and it is awsome, components needed:
- rainbow wing
- TX
- hand to hold the wing (second person is perfect)
- grill
- charcoal

procedure:
- you put the charcoal and start the fire.
- you grab the tx
- your friend grabs the wing and points the motor to the grill
- tx throttle POWAAAAAAH!

in 2 mins the grill is engulfed in flames Big Grin

until now i did this only with my 5" quad... wing is much more efficient Smile))
All the best
Grzesiek (Grisha/ Greg)

Curently flyable: Nox 5, Minimalist 112
Bench / in progres: fixing Nox 3,  Scrap
thinking about building: 450

Despite the amount of hot glue and tape used, the Firestarter is still flying. I still try to use yaw on my TX lol

Now I dream of a bigger plane. And by bigger, I mean a 1.5m wingspan Big Grin I'll probably go with a KFm4 airfoil but I need to read more on scratch builds Smile

EDIT: video is on passtrough mode, but It seems like the stabilized mode works somehow after changing a few settings, including remapping the servos to correct pins. After flicking the mode switch, the plane turns into a pendulum and plummets to the ground. But it does it in a very stable manner, now I think it's incorrect PID setting and trim on the TX causing that behaviour.

Nice inverted "hang" time Big Grin Looks great Konrad!

A tip on the attempted use of "yaw": You can create a mix on your TX to mix in a little aileron with rudder (ircc, it's called rudder -> aileron mix). That way when you move the "yaw" stick, you get a bit of expected reaction. I used to do this on all of my "3 channel" airplanes - engine, elevator, and rudder (which was mapped to the aileron stick) - so that I didn't loose my rudder technique.

KonradS, I was able to setup my wing like you did. Every thing is ok except one thing:
- when I throttle up, the servos start moving.
- when I throttle down, the servos go back to their original positions.
I can see them moving the the Servos tab.
Have you experienced this situation ?
Thanks.
