Build a Tiny Whoop - Resource and Share Your builds
#1
Finally built my own tiny whoop.  Always wanted an indoor quad for rainy days and after work flights. I work a later shift and it's usually dark time I get home. New motors are in the mailbox. Ran it on the stock motors with poor performance. Needed 100% throttle to even lift. Ended up burning out one of the motors.

Some images are in post #5. Included some pics of AUW and weight you'll lose removing things.

I'm thinking about building one too, for the rainy days Smile

Have you tried using the imgur uploader feature for the photos?

Build one! It's all the craze lol

I will use imgur once I get the motors in. Didnt feel much need to post pics as they all look the same really.

Maybe the forum admins could consider a thread just for tiny whoop posts. Instead of us creating 10 posts all about the same quad. There isn't much of a 'build' to it.

Blade Inductrix BNF (LHS)
Nanoforce 180mah Lipo (Amazon)
Random 25mW cam/vtx combo (Amazon)
Dx6i(Main tx for all RC)
6x15mm motors (www.65drones.com)

Motors are an absolute must with upgrades. Stock motors just cannot hold the cam and actually fly. Needs 100% throttle at all times and turns it just drops. Once I got the motors in it has been insanely fun! Impossible to put down the sticks. I need about 25-100 more batteries  Tongue

Flight times for me on the above batteries is about 2 mins. Only thing I see left is figuring out where I can save more weight.

I have flogged my Tiny whoop to death, gone through 3 sets of motors, 2 frames (3rd on the way)..and yet, not a single prop.. these tiny quads are super addictive. Sure they cost you about $149,375 to buy and maintain, but hey..can't put a price on all this insane indoor flying.

Seriously though.

These are not as cheap to buy and run as you may imagine..gets costly very quick.

Hey K24cl9,

How do you feel about using this thread as "a thread just for tiny whoop posts" (and builds, and videos, etc.)?  It's got a pretty good title already.  (Maybe Oscar would even sticky it if it becomes popular enough.)

Anyway, I just finished my tiny whoop build and need to post it somewhere.... Rolleyes

What kind of receiving antenna do I need to be compatible with the transmitting camera antenna? Can I get by with a "rubber duck"? Do I need a RHCP cloverleaf? Will a RH skew planar work? Will lefthand anything work at all?

I have not tried a rubber ducky, I will when I get off work. I use RHCP clover and patch on mine. I don't have have lefthanded to test unfortunately.

Here's my Tiny Whoop build:
[Image: eUJhvQosa-OOsC-W5DUbcY26Z31NMAemvMM_ha6p...40-h979-no]

Parts list:
- Blade Inductrix BNF (Amazon)
- Quanum Elite Cam VTx combo (Hobby King)
- Camera mount ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1577959 )
- Lipos (Mylipo 205 and Nanoforce 180)
- Upgrade motors (fast)

I de-cased the camera (easy), removed the canopy (easy), installed the mount (easy), installed the camera and soldered the wires (medium), cut and re-installed the canopy (easy).

I wanted to fly it right away, so I held off on swapping the motors.  It flies OK for me for now, so  I think I will wait until I burn out/wear out a motor to install the upgrade motors.

I had to build this while waiting on parts to repair my 130 (shown with tiny whoop in last photo).  I've only flown it in my office so far - gotta go sweep/vacuum dog hair before I take it through the rest of the house.  Cool
