Bonjour fron France !
#1
Hello everybody !
First I apologize for my English, as a french guy, this is not my native tongue.
I am a 43 years old airline pilot in Françe and I've discovered quad racing few months ago via internet.
I think it's an incredible hobby that mixes a lot of different skills, like piloting, buildind a quad, etc...
For the time I have a nano quad eachine QX 95 and I have a lot of fun with it.
I've also ordered parts used in the yt video by UAV futures "how to. build a fpv quad racer for 99 $", and I'll start the build in the next few days.
I also visited a part of your beautiful country 2 years ago, and I really love your country.
Regards.
David

Welcome David! Being a full scale airline pilot should give you a leg up in flying quads (you've been flying FPV for years!).

Good to have you in the group. Just be aware that intoFPV is not really a country unto itself (although we are working on it) Big Grin

We are from all over the world... so I guess we can all claim your compliment Smile

Hi Dave,

Glad to have you here. It's really great what an array of experience types we get in this hobby Smile As for language, your text seems great to me and I wouldn't have known if you hadn't told us. If along the way something we say doesn't make sense just ask, we have a few folks here with other languages than English being their first.

As for country there are quite a few but I would guess with Oscar being UK that you mean UK?

Oh yeah, the french generally love England, oh no, that's not right is it!?

Just reminded of the 100 foot journey, if anyone has seen it?

Indian guy arrives at French border control, official asks -
"Why are you leaving England?"
the response -
"You know, the vegetables there, they.... have no soul!"

Welcome to the forum David, I am sure that you will enjoy your stay here more than the English weather!

Of course I mean UK, but in fact I mean USA too !
Being an airline pilot helps me for sure, but piloting an aircraft is very different from a quad. I ´ve spent a few hours struggling with FPV free rider before making basic coordinated turns. When you are used to piloting in a way, it is hard to change your habits. I just pay attenttion not to pilot my aircraft the way I pilot my nano quad....and I ban flips and rolls during commercial flights. !!
I think I will need your help because some things are still'not very clear for me, for example : flashing ESCs, where to solder Rx, can I use Sbus, etc...
Thank you all !

LOL, I don't think I would like to be on a long haul flight where the pilot decided to alleviate the boredom with some inverted yaw spins and a vert turntable *nod to fftunes* It might make for some interesting cocktails from the drinks trolley though!

Any questions you have re. your build, there is already a thread for the $99 UAV Futures build here and there are a few guys on the forum who have gone through the process with various different choices of components who can give you some experienced advice.

As a frequent traveler (although not in Europe) I thank you for not carrying out any rolls and flips. While I enjoy those moves in my goggles and on youtube I think I'd be a little uncomfortable with them on a commercial flight!

On your two issues that you have examples for I would say do a quick search to see if you can find what you're looking for and/or create 2 new threads (as they sound like 2 distinct issues) in the beginners section (I recommend that one because it gets the most attention after the welcome section)

One issue being flashing ESCs
include which ESCs that you have, what issues you've run into, what flight controller you're using.

The other being learning more about how your Rx and flight controller work together.
On this one its important to share what the receiver is and what the flight controller is so that we can understand if there are any particular sticking points between the two (for example there are a couple of extra things to look for when using an Omnibus F4 and a XSR)

The other thing that I do when I am stuck is do a google search for "%my issue% oscar"... that is whatever my issue is followed by Oscar's name. This generally will pull up his blog if he has a topic on the subject. A good example of that is BLheli ESC flashing.

Thank you for your help !
At the moment, I only have the frame and the motors for my new quad.
I'll try to find solutions in time, and if it's not obvious for me, I'll send a Mayday message !!

Today was a great day with my first rolls and flips in the garden, with the QX95. Great time !!
