BLHELI esc cal without a flight controller
#1
Hello,
I am new here and new to BLHELI esc's.
I am running a 270 quad with Emax 2205-S 2300kv motors, Ipeaka EFM 30amp esc's that have BLHELI_S firmware and a Eagle Tree Micro Vector flight controller.
How do I calibrate the BLHELI esc's manually without a flight controller? Or is that posiable?

Thanks in advance.

You can calibrate your ESC's with your TX.
Remove props, move throttle stick to 100%, power up quad, then you should hear motor beeps signalling calibration mode. when it stops beeping now lower throttle stick to 0, and it beeps again when it stops you can just unplug lipo. that's it.

Hi Oscar,
Thanks.
I thought BLHELI esc's had to be calibrated differently than the SimonK types of ESC's.

The issue with this approach is the resulting values won't be related to the Eagle Tree FC in any way, the point of calibration is synchronizing the FC output with the ESC input to make sure their oscillators aren't too divergent.

I thought the point of calibration was to have the esc's know the end points of the throttle in the transmitter.

Joshua Bardwell has several videos on ESC calibration.  I suggest watching them all.  You can start with this one:

EDIT: Sorry, I see you're using the Vector - so not applicable to your situation. Still good info...

With the Vector, you'll still do the basic calibration that Oscar described so that they're all in sync.  Then when you run through the Vector RX wizard, it will recognize your endpoints.

Hello,
Well it seems that my Micro Vector from Eagle Tree does support pass-thru esc configuration and firmware updates using the BLHELI suite software.
I tried it and I was able to update all four esc to 16.6 from 16.3.
I am one step closer to getting this quad in the air.
Even though I am not done, just want to say thanks to you all for your help.

Please let us know your experience. I'm really interested in alternative flight controllers and firmware. After having a very positive experience with dRonin on the BrainFPV RE1, I've become much more interested in expanding my horizons.

(Except for Raceflight)

Weather hasn't been too good to fly lately, but it gets better I will get out and try this quad and let you know what i think of the Micro vector.

Yes, I really appreciate the ease of use of the dRonin software.  I've since switched the RE1 to Betaflight, however I still use dRonin to flash BF firmware onto it
