Blackbox explorer with PID-variables and other data?
#1
I remember watching one of Joshua Bardwells tuning videos on youtube some time ago where he was using a special blackbox explorer with the ability to show you the PIDs and other variables but I can't seem to find it.
Does anyone know about this version of blackbox explorer? It would be nice to have this ability when comparing blackbox logs with different PIDs. I always forget to take a note of the PIDs for each blackbox log

You can render a PID table using the blackbox_render tool.

The readme file is here: https://github.com/cleanflight/blackbox-tools

The download is here: https://github.com/cleanflight/blackbox-tools/releases

Isn't this just an overlay with the real time PID values? I was thinking more the PID-settings from betaflight. I often do a blackbox log, but many times I change the PIDs without taking a note of it and store it with the blackbox log, so I can sometimes watch a log and figure out that I don't even know what PIDs this log has.

It appears to me that PID values are not recorded as part of the blackbox data.. I have never found it myself, and according to Cleanflight documentation only these are recorded:

Quote:The blackbox records flight data on every iteration of the flight control loop. It records the current time in microseconds, P, I and D corrections for each axis, your RC command stick positions (after applying expo curves), gyroscope data, accelerometer data (after your configured low-pass filtering), barometer and sonar readings, 3-axis magnetometer readings, raw VBAT and current measurements, RSSI, and the command being sent to each motor speed controller. This is all stored without any approximation or loss of precision, so even quite subtle problems should be detectable from the fight data log.

I just figured it out kind of. If you open the Blackbox log file in a text editor, all the pid, rate etc values are at the top of the log

Here is a screenshot from windows file explorer, where you can see the FC config in the preview pane. You can also open it in wordpad to get the proper formatting.

I didn't know this was possible, thanks for sharing.

No problem! I think it's quite useful to know what kind of PIDs I got on each log
