It doesn't seem they even bother putting any new specs for it. Otherwise if you swap in any similar 1103, it may look a little odd but in terms of flight performance you might not even notice any difference. • Posts: 21,185 Threads: 582 Likes Received: 8,927 in 6,603 posts Likes Given: 1,425 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 786 (18-Nov-2023, 06:09 AM)husafreak Wrote: FYI, I got a response from BetaFPV today, they do not plan on making more of the motors that came on this PNP quad. So if I damage or if one dies I'll be having to replace the whole set. It's no surprise to hear that from BetaFPV. A company that manufactures and knocks out cheap crap to chase the hype train and then ends up leaving customers high and dry. They are willing to try new things, not all great and some have issues, but offered at a low price and I wouldn't call it crap. Great for micro fanatics who enjoy experimenting, keeping in mind some of these are really "Beta" as their brand name suggests. Like all these drone manufacturers they seem to have trouble coming up with new names for their products and keep reusing the same name, and worse there are five or more versions. And for all companies, it seems coming up quickly with new/revised products is more important for their bottom line. Their staple whoop BNF kits are great value though and give a good out of the box experience. They brought out one of the first SPI ELRS AIO for toothpicks at $35, I have probably a dozen builds on that board and did not encounter any issues. However on their more expensive 2-4S AIO that flew nicely, I've had 3/4 fail over time and see this board now comes in V6. Believe they were also the first to bring out digital only AIO. Then there's BT2.0 (now BT3.0), they also kicked off the O3 whoop trend with the Pico, 45mm propped whoops, etc. As for their motors, there were rumors that they were made in the same factory as RCinpower, but I find that hard to believe, they just don't have the same quality feel or look. They perform alright, but not the cheapest, Happymodels are cheaper and often more efficient, but I would say both are pretty much disposable motors. Although their latest shiny motors (SEs) definitely look a lot nicer, will have to see how they hold up. You should probably still get some good use out of them depending on how hard you fly. • Posts: 407 Threads: 44 Likes Received: 89 in 78 posts Likes Given: 178 Joined: Oct 2023 Reputation: 3 (18-Nov-2023, 06:34 AM)mstc Wrote: If you want to stick with Betafpv, I imagine their 8500kv version is nearly the exact same motor. That motor has shorter connector wiring, too short, it would require cut and solder extensions. • Posts: 407 Threads: 44 Likes Received: 89 in 78 posts Likes Given: 178 Joined: Oct 2023 Reputation: 3 18-Nov-2023, 06:12 PM (This post was last modified: 18-Nov-2023, 06:12 PM by husafreak.) I agree with both points of view. BetaFPV has introduced me to a lot of cool stuff for not much money. But quality is iffy and it's pretty annoying to compare two BetaFPV 1103 8000kv motors for sale on the internet and realize the screen printing, specs, appearance, cable length, etc. are both different. As a company they are pretty irresponsible. Sales above all else right? The best replacement option is the clearly the GEPRC one, same specs, plugs, and cable length. And as far as I can see they all cost about $10 each. • Posts: 2,378 Threads: 74 Likes Received: 1,338 in 998 posts Likes Given: 781 Joined: Apr 2022 Reputation: 41 (18-Nov-2023, 06:09 AM)husafreak Wrote: FYI, I got a response from BetaFPV today, they do not plan on making more of the motors that came on this PNP quad. I had a similar email a while back while enquiring about 1103 10000kv motors, ie, the ones that come on a 2021 (and possibly 2022) Meteor85. They essentially said the motors were EOL (end of life). I'm also getting the feeling that 1102 18000kv is the same. Nowhere seems to have any stock a late. My suggestion is you look for spares now and if you can buy a full set and not get ripped off doing it, then buy as many as you can afford, but ideally four or more. If not, then pick something else and buy eight motors when you get them, so you have a full backup set available. I'll bet BetaFPV isn't the only company that can't consistently produce the same motors over time. Of course Murphy's law says as soon as I buy 8 motors I'll destroy the frame, LOL. • |
