Betaflight F3 and Runcam Split
#1
Hey guys, new build and relatively new to all this.  I've scoured the internet and the forums, but I can't seem to get an answer that I understand on why I can't power my Runcam Split from my Betaflight F3.  I'm running the Unify Pro V2 (which is 5V).  I've jumped the 5v on the FC to RAM and I get power to everything, until I plug in the Split.  I can run through all the configurations I've tried, but I'm at a loss.  Does anyone have a good configuration for running the Split on a Betaflight F3 FC with the Unify V2 versus the HV.  I'm thinking it has something to do with the Unify V2 versus the FC.

Thanks in advance and sorry if this is completely a dumb question, but I'm stumped.

I did get it to work on the Matek 405 AIO, but this Betaflight F3 FC on my son's quad is mind boggling.

Mark

Hey Mark,

I have the Runcam Split too and found I couldn't run it direct from my FC because it draws too much current and would reboot the FC. If you have a 5v output on your PDB try connecting it to that as this may supply enough power to the split.

I've read that some have had no problem powering the Split from UART3 on the BF F3, and others complaining of your problem. I think it may be the fact that some are using clones with cheap regulators that don't put out quite the amps advertised (just a hunch). So I think that Oscar's advice to use a 5 volt dropdown regulator is the way to go. On a side note, the DYS F4 Pro appears to power the Split with no problem.

Thanks Snuffy!

Since I'm using an AIO, it is the PDB, but I think I will go the step down route.  Too bad, as the Betaflight F3 AIO was supposed to save some space.  I guess the step down is small, so it won't be that bad.  :-)

Interesting.  I got mine from getFPV, so I hope it's not a clone.  :-)  It's strange that some report no issues and some do.

Despite the regulator on the BFF3 being rated for 3A (which is probably an optimistic rating to start with), the diode that is in series with the regulator output is only rated for 1A. If you're already running a Unify Pro off the 5V regulator, there is nowhere near enough power left over to run the Split.

A separate 5V regulator is the only way to go.
