Here's a good tip: Before you do anything with it, connect it to the computer and check that everything works properly. Look at the configurator's log to see what it is currently flashed with. It probably comes with Cleanflight pre-flashed.

Hi Unseen!

I've made a lot of progress since we last spoke, quad arms and all! Only thing is my motor shafts broke, so got replacements coming.

Your motor shafts broke??! How on earth??

What motors did you use? (So I can make sure I avoid them.)

Well they were racer star 2205. Only 2 broke. Was when I was removing nylocks

I have the same motors on one of my builds and I use nylock nuts on them. I've never had a problem.

Let me guess...You have both right hand and left hand threaded motor shafts and you were trying to remove the nuts by tightening them?

I'm not sure, I was very careful about which way I WAS TURNING THEM - BUT AGREE THIS SEEMS LIKELY!

However, the nuts came off the props that weren't badly damaged easy peasy, so I think the minor crash I had (Insta-flip) meant that the props got soooooo tight

I broke one, then tried a second with my dad (who isn't stupid in diy etc) and the same happened.

Going to be reaaaallly careful with my new motors (coming today)

You'll get this thing in the air...sooner or later! Big Grin

Test outside on nice soft grass, not indoors.

Yeah, last time my quad 'instaflipped' into the wall of my garden. Going to a field today I think.

I'll record what happens this time, then if its horrendous, the guru (you) can diagnose the issue!

Indoors... now that would have been a mess...

Trued a windows 10 desktop, and MacBook Air

Tried a few USBs, not successful with a phone microUSb which should have a Data Connection surely?

To anyone reading this, buy a new USB if nothing else seems to work! If you're from the UK, I got a standard USB by Bush from Argos, and got my board flashed so easily, wish I'd tried to buy a new one sooner!

One question:
On Betaflight, in the modes, there are sliders. What are these called, what do they do, and is there a video to explain it all?

So I want my quad to self level, to start with.

So I need to turn on the horizon with. But...

What AUX? Is it AUX3 - throttle? Or is it another?
Also, if I have the whole bar, it should be on permanently right?

Your first four channels are your throttle, elevator, aileron and rudder. Subsequent channels are called AUX (for auxiliary) channels.

Self levelling modes are Angle and Horizon. Angle mode won't let you do flips. Horizon mode behaves more and more like acro mode the further your stick moves away from the centre position.
