Best FC for new pilot?
#1
I am looking to build a 250 quad for the first time and the only thing I am really struggling on choosing is a flight controller. I would like to have OSD without having to get another piece of equipment. I have heard about the Beerotor F3 FC with OSD. Is that any good?

Thanks!

I think it is a good FC together with the beerotor pdb. The only Downside with mine is that I have not been able to update or configure the mwosd software due to not able to communicate with my FTDI adapter. it is running mwosd 1.5 and you can do some osd configuration on the fpv Screen. I read that some People experience this problem, but I have not found any solution for it yet. The Rctimer support is a joke.

Here is a link with info about this fc:

The Emax Skyline32+OSD is also another option, performance is similar to a Naze32 board

I still cannot get SBUS working on my Skyline32 with OSD, and EMAX is next to useless with support.

The thing about all "in one" is that if one goes you have to replace the whole thing or add another part any way

It's just two things here, the FC and the OSD, so I wouldn't say it's that bad. If the OSD is busted, you can get a MinimOSD which is quite cheap, and if the FC breaks, you have to buy a new FC anyway. The exstra cost of an FC with integrated OSD is well worth it in my opinion. I hate to find a place in my quad for the micro minimosd with all the freaking cables hanging out   Cool

I recently helped a friend build a copter with Flip32 F3

It has osd, plenty of blackbox mem, and uses jumpers to set what is connected via usb.

If OSD is not something I want, what would be the best FC to use?

Just my view,

Xracer F303, SPRacing F3, Dodo, Cyclone..all good boards, and the trusty Naze Rev 5 is still a solid performer as well.

If you're a new pilot i recommend the NAZE rev5 with PPM if not go with a Xracer F303 v3, or Cyclone.

I purchased a naze32 rev6. Is that better than the rev5?

The general consensus from those that have used the Rev5 and the Rev6 is that the Rev6 has a lot of issues.

One thing I'd check before buying a FC is its layout, and how it works out with your frame. e.g. The SPRacing3 Mini has the USB coming out of the side, and the motor pins towards the rear, which is ideal for a frame like the F1-6 or ZMR250. I recently replaced a broken SPR3 Mini with a Skyline F3, and the layout is pretty inconvenient. The Motor pins and USB are opposite eachother, so you have to choose between tidy cabling and easy USB access. Theres no easy way to achieve both unless you direct solder the ESCs.
