Armadillo v.s Bus
#1
Hey Guys,

I just got the runcam split and I'm not much of a "freestyler",  anyway here's a video of me attempting to fly through a bus.  Enjoy and maybe subscribe.  I only need 7 more subscriptions to get my own youtube url.

Cheers!

Hey, thats nice.

I heard about RunCam split it have more latency than normal FPV camera, is it noticeable? I'm planning to buy it for my 130 build, so interested in feedback. (:

Have a look here: https://oscarliang.com/fpv-camera-latency/

The Split comes in at 38ms on average. Yes, it's a little slower than some other cameras, but the Swift is 28.5ms on average and is a well regarded FPV camera. I don't think most people would notice 9.5ms extra latency.

I saw this Oscar's post. I also saw this his post where he says
Quote:To me, the 50ms latency was noticeable flying proximity in tight spaces and in the forrest. It’s flyable but I sometimes had to go slower to not crash

So that's why I have a bit of uncertainty.

I understand that I may not notice 10-15 ms difference between Swift (I'm flying with now) and Split, but camera delay is not only delay, right? There is also delay of transmitter, receiver and display, and actual delay will be not 30-50ms but ... ? So I wanted to get opinion from someone who flew (and in this case even in tight space (: ) with it.

Fair comment although one figure is the maximum latency and the other is the average latency.

I also noticed that the microSD card used in Oscar's review is a UHS-I class 1 card. It would be interesting to see if using a UHS-I class 3 card has an influence on the latency.

The latency is not really the biggest issue on the split. The fpv video quality is not that great, it seems like it doesn't deal with bright and dark exposures very well. Sometimes if your power source is not perfect, the camera will freeze or it will drop the frame rate to 12 fps. I wouldn't put it on a race quad, the armadillo is my garage beater.

Does it handle bright/dark exposures at least as Runcam Swift? If so, it will be good enough for me, I think, at least for 130, which will mainly fly in the inside.

And as I understand, power source problem just can be fixed by better power filtering and more powerful bec?

I don't have a run cam swift to compare with, for indoor it should be OK. It just doesn't handle sunset very well. And yes a bec will fix the power issue. In my case I'm using a separate voltage regulator just for the split. Keep in mind it uses 1amp.

Did you think so? I was pretty impressed with how it handled the very low sun when I took my Japalura out for its maiden flight.

(Sorry for the crappy LOS DVR video.)

Thanks trojanGoat for your mini-review (:

Basically, Runcam Swift handles sunset like that:

If Split does it any better, I'll be happy (:
Feel like constantly chasing perfection. Once you think you almost got it, see how far you are really.

Yeah is pretty much the same. Really hard to see dark areas.
