Anyone want to help connect the dots?... ;)

Ran across this vid from the preview stack while watching a different unrelated one...

...went to his linked N100 page @ amazon, saw that it was unavailable but this was:

GMKtec Mini PC, Intel Alder Lake N100 Windows 11 Pro (3.4GHz), 8GB DDR4 RAM 256GB PCIe M.2 SSD, Desktop Computer 4K Dual HDMI Display/4x USB3.2/WiFi 6/BT5.2/RJ45 Ethernet Nucbox G3 - $159.89
https://www.amazon.com/GMKtec-Mini-PC-Co...B0CH81C4K3

adding a couple more with speedy DDR5 ram:

AWOW Mini PC Intel Gen12 N100 Quad Core 3.40GHz, 8GB DDR5 4800MHz 256GB M.2 SSD Mini Desktop Computer, Micro PC Dual Display HDMI DP 4K@60Hz Dual Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi5/BT5.2/ USB3.1 - $149.99
https://www.amazon.com/AWOW-3-40GHz-4800...B0CJDVW89L

GMKtec Mini PC Windows 11 Pro Intel N100 (3.4GHz) 4C/4T, Dual LAN Mini Desktop Computer 12GB DDR5 512GB Hard Drive, Micro PC 4K, Triple Display, WiFi6, BT5.2, Energy Efficient Nucbox G2, Red/Black - $189.89
https://www.amazon.com/Mini-PC-Computers...B0CCD3NMZ4

...hmmmm why not run your printer from something like this? Is there a “load Klipper from Linux” option available for the unschooled like me?

...hmmmm... interesting... discovered "mini-itx case" for other options enabling easier electronics enclosure building than the diy makerbeam route I took.

What would be ideal in my mind atm would be an easy to cobble alternative t /something similar to say Pad 7 or Creality Sonic Pad. This seems to be totally doable and should have much better performance even being able to output to a regular flat screen monitor vs touch pad?...

Ideas?

edit to add:

yeup someone has been there, done that:

Klipper 3d printer firmware easy install using Kiauh on a mini pc

...another dot done...

I admittedly bought several RPi's back in the day. They aren't current models though. RPi 3B mostly. I'm told they should work with my printer. But I haven't even tried printing on it yet. Busy life and well I kind of got a 10 min talk on how to use it of which none of it I remember. Tongue So will probably buy a new printer towards summer, probably a Prusa. For me though I would rather have the 3D printer setup as a network printer. Don't know if you can do that with the Prusa, but you definitely can't with my current one, but you can connect to the RPi via SSH or a remote desktop.

Those Mini PC's you linked are kind of expensive. If you are struggling to find a RPi, look into the Orange Pi, Banana Pi or Odroid boards. I kind of like the ODroid kit and have had one running in a camper van before now. The M1S version even has support for NVME drives.

Thanks but I do have a pi4 but got all Sinatra wanting to do it "My Way". Thinks it'll be a fun project tho: comes with Win11, SD slot, HDMI, DisplayPort, 4 USBs, ddr5 ram. Gonna dual boot with Ubuntu hanging the NUC onto the back of an old flat screen with a separate 7" touchscreen.

Well, that's the plan for now... we will see. Smile

As a project it makes sense, but if you were looking for an almost ready to use type equivalent, the Dell Optiplex AIO's might fit the bill as well.  The older 4th gen models can often be found for about £50 over here in the UK.  Not bad for a screen and computer with 8GB of ram and an SSD.  They use more power than a RPi, but you can do more on them too.  If you can live with even less power, I've seen the third gen i5's for like £20 ($30) with 4GB ram and 500GB HDD.  Powerful enough to edit videos in Openshot, run your 3D Printer and probably other stuff.  Maybe even run Freerider on.

Wow that's pretty awesome, I never heard of that Dell Optiplex AIO before now! Yeup, they can easily be found on ebay, possibly Craigslist via searchtempest search as well.

Pretty impressed with the AWOW mini pc even if does cost more tho. Came with Win11 Pro and now have Ubuntu loaded as well for the next kiauh, klipper, etc progression - no hurries...

Why is it that hobbies seem to lead to more hobbies?... that "time" thing... Smile
