Antena upgrade to dipole (out of salvaged parts)
Have you ever got your favourite antenna cutted like below? or maybe you cutted the active part...

do you throw it away? -Nope
you get replacement antena or cut the remaining part of your antena and create a dipole :Smile
how to do this...
first gather what is needed:

  • new antena (or old one if still long enough)
  • brass dipole part (tube)
  • flux
  • exacto knife (or something sharp)
  • solder
  • soldering iron
  • 3rd hand (if your hands are as steady as mine)
  • 15 minutes of your time
so first get your children/dog/spouse out of the house... so you will have a bit of time Smile

put the remainings of your old antenna into the third hand and using soldering iron heatup the conection with shield of the antenna (only tinned part) just between active part of the antena and the shield.
after few seconds you should have the bras still in the 3rd hand and remainings of the active part outside of your brass dipole Smile

then it is time to clean the brass part so it will be ready for new antenna.

as this is done put it aside, now it is time to work on the antena it self.. take the new one or the remainings if long enough and measure 31 mm and remove the shield (refer to videos by Bruce (Xjet) and Joshua Baldwell linked at end of this post)
you should have something like this:

now you will need to take a tiny bit more but don't cut the shield only the silicone part from it:
now pre-tin the shielded part (only tiny bit you will need to squeeze it through a small hole in the bras)

now without soldering check if you can put the pretinned antenna through the bras in my case i needed to make the hole a bit bigger:

now the manual testing in my case looked like this:

now use soldering iron to solder the brass to the shield (watchout not to burn or solder the active part of the antenna)
after all fun it looks like this...
