Angry Oskie Micro Quad

Is it worth cutting down some Ladybird or Hubsan 107 props?

I didn't look close enough at this 1st time round - 33g, dry!? That is about a gram or 2 heavier than my Bat-100, and that is using full length ladybird props!

What it's worth doing, is building the electrics over onto the BD Bat 110 frame, and getting some parrot 65mm or eachine 66mm props, then you can get the best from your 65c 600mAh graphenes with a proper 1s racer!

It might be a little bit big for an indoor model though, especially considering the size of properties in Europe!

It is a little on the porky side with the prop guard fitted. I've also deviated from Oscar's parts list and used a flight controller with built in OSD and a separate micro FrSky receiver with telemetry.

The heavier 0705 motors also add quite a bit of extra weight, but I'd hoped that would be offset by more power from the larger motors.

It did just occur to me that I'd left the motor timing on the ESC at the default 'medium' setting which is hardly appropriate to a 15000kv motor, so I've just changed that to 'high' and I'm waiting for a battery to charge. Hopefully that change will release the real power from these motors.

I was considering checking out the difference of different motor timings on the Bat, but it was so much fun to fly I destryed a motor before I ever had a chance to try. Let me know how it goes with the timing advanced?

Well, increasing timing to 'high' certainly added some power and also made the motors run more quietly.

It's still needing around 60% throttle to hover though and the limited testing I can do indoors showed some strange flight characteristics in self levelling modes, probably caused by vibration.

I also find it really difficult to get all the wires to remain safely out of the way of the propellers.

I think I'll print a larger frame so that I can put some Ladybird props on. This setup seems to just be fighting against tiny props and a tiny frame just for the sake of making something really small.

Unseen, I found the Sunnysky 0705 motors a bit on the heavy side for these props on 1S, they add 4-5g to your quad without much thrust gain. I think they are better suited for 2S. So far i prefer 0703 motors on this build.

I agree on the vibration issue too, I need to work on some sort of soft mounting on the frame. I've got a BoldClash Tinywhoop that uses the same motors, the FC is soft mounted and it flies so much better than the Oskie in self level.

I did think about going to 2S, but the flight controller and ESC that I used only runs on 1S.

I had an even worse experience with vibration on the Toad 90 that I won. I took it out for a first line of sight maiden and within seconds of taking off, it was flying to the left at about 30 degrees. After a couple of attempts, I was forced to ditch the craft before it headed into some thick bushes and it landed on the pavement, puncturing one of the cells on the battery. :/

It's waiting for a rebuild that includes soft mounting for the flight controller.

Have you tested the 0705 15000kv on 2S? BG product page says 1S max?

Lost one M2 screw after crash yesterday, so half gram lighter today )

Yeah, I guess that if I took the prop guard off, I wouldn't be that far away from your dry weight there. There's too much to bump into in my small apartment, so that's not really an option.

The fact that it's currently nearly -7°C outside kind of rules out flying outdoors!

Where can I find an .stl file of bigger frame with 6,5 mm motor mounting pattern? Tried to edit Oscar's frame in FreeCAD, but didn't succeed.

I broke motor shaft on one 0705 motor. Is it repereable? If no, does anybody need three 0705 Sunnysky motors? Smile
Waiting for 0703 to change...

This is my store at Armattan Productions where you can find my updated design for the Bat-100 (BD Bat 110) which can take 65-66mm props (so it should generate more thrust than the 55mm props of the standard Bat-100). I have also included the option to have the frame cut from 1.5mm CF (same as the original Bat-100) as well as 2mm CF which will only add about 1.5g, so there is a more durable frame option as well. You will need to supply your own M2 standoffs (20mm), as Armattan don't stock them to provide as part of the kit.

The thrust test vid I looked at showed the parrot 65mm props generating about 5g more (static) thrust per motor than the 55mm ladybird props, across 4 motors that is an extra 20g!

The vid is using the RacerStar 0703 motors, so with the additional torque from the SunnySky 0705's, you might even get more additional thrust than 5g per motor..?

Unseen has ordered the 1.5mm kit and a 2mm chassis, so hopefully we will get some unbiased feedback from him soon...

I don't know about 'soon'. First it has to get into the production queue at Armattan and then make the long journey from Taiwan.

Hopefully, it will be getting warm enough here to go out and fly it by the time everything arrives! Big Grin

Indeed.

I saw that a vendor in the UK has the 5" Rooster frame in stock earlier today, but the £95 price instead of $95 stayed my hand. It's not that often I get stung with VAT and charges when I buy from Armattan directly and the build that I'm planning for the Rooster is all top end stuff, so I need to keep some restraint on overall costs.

It is fully deserving of top quality electronics. That is a build log I am really looking forward to.

I watched UAV futures review, grumpy Trev looked close to tears when Stu gave him one!
