Sometimes I use angle mode in proximity flying but find it very sluggish.

What is the best way to increase response/sensitivity in angle? Currently all settings are default.

you might get what you like by do a profile with increased feedforward

than you might need to tune the pid, an increased p-term value should make it more responsive

did you already mentioned or tried different rates settings?

i always fly in Angle Mode.
You should change the default settings:

set max_angle_inclination_rll = 300
and
set max_angle_inclination_pit = 300

i set roll to 450, pit to 425 and i have a much more responsive quad
