And so it begins...

I also used the highest hole in the servo horn - if I was to glue this all together again, I would either use the second or the middle one - should give you more fine control.

If you leave it like it is now, you will have to limit the servo throws in inav.
Find me on Youtube and Instagram. I currently fly: DRC Aura, NOX5R, Minimalist 112 and drive a scrap RC car

Thank you Konrad! Big Grin Your guidance is most truly appreciated!  I will shift is down a notch.  I need to move one of the servo horns anyway as it is off a tooth tilted forward.

Also, going to use my Swift 2 from The 5" on a Foxeer ClearTX.  This way I have some range and a basic OSD.  Voltage and timer are enough for now.

I will be using a Lumenier 6045 bi-blade as my prop for now as I have several sets.

Might be time to get a little excited! Smile

Quick question Kaity, what glue are you using? I've done some research but of course like anything in this hobby, everyone has their opinion. General consensus for servos seems to be hot glue, but there seem to be quite a few different options for actually gluing the EPP foam bodies. There's Beacon brand Foam-Tac which seems to be quite expensive and not quite as strong as other options. There's also Welder's glue which seems to be quite strong but brittle and also as it has no UV protection, apparently it turns yellow quite quickly. There's also epoxy and CA but they seem to be quite messy. So it seems that the glue with the best characteristics such as strength, flexability and ease of use and what seems to be quite popular is white Gorilla glue.

I used "Shoe Goo" on the recommendation of a local pilot.  It appears to be good stuff for this.  Just a little bit of flex so that the glue is not brittle.

The Foxeer VTX appears to be resting indefinitely, so used one of the many VTX-03's around the bench.

Oooooo never thought of ShoeGoo and I have lots of it. I use ShoeGoo and fibreglass tape to repair rc car and truck bodies. Vapours are pretty strong though. Thanks and good luck on your maiden flight, can't wait to hear how it goes!

We are headed to a park that has a largish open area.  A few people fly there, so maybe will not be alone...we'll see!

Broke both servos, guess that explains the $2 price on ebay.  The gears are stripped it would seem, I have a few spares.  Tore the starboard aileron, though that is repaired with some clear tape.

The last flight (crash, actually) was after adjusting the balance a bit and it suddenly flew a bit under my control...before leaving my control and finding the curb!  The damage came from that crash...as well as Maddie will be getting a new GoPro (broken now).  But I did fly it about 100 feet before losing it Smile

Wow, that looks like me trying to fly full acro. Sorry about the damage but it is all about learning something new , right ?

You'll have it down in no time.

Ps thanks for sharing the "not so good" footage. It makes me feel better about my piloting skills. Smile

OMG. That looks so difficult Confused Well done for persevering. I'm sure you'll eventually get the hang of it with more practice.

How were you launching it? Maybe a good launch technique that is key to getting enough initial stability to then keep it in the air long enough to get some height where you than at least have some room for error while you're learning how to control the thing.

I am not sure what mode it is in.  This is the first time I have ever tried to fly a wing and it was so different from flying quads!  The last flight actually was not bad.  I think I know why it went into a spin.

Gwen, our housemate went with me.  She is tossing it with the "skyhook method" as it seemed safest.  The prop really does spin fast on this thing!  There is some footage from the GoPro on the first few crashes...we are both laughing when we walk up.  The last flight was after adjusting the ailerons a little more uptilt when the servos are zeroed and I think I would have been good at that point except a servo stripped!  The first few flights, nothing was trimmed.

A valent first effort(s)!!! Smile  I thought you had it there on the last one.  What  you call damage, I call growing pains.  Well done Kaity, I have no doubt that you will soon be one of the resident experts on flying and building these things.   Big Grin

Well done, that is not easy Big Grin

As far as stripping servo gears go, I stripped a few sets on my S800. Grab some of those, I use them now on both wings:
