and discussion on Martian II 255mm
#1
Hi guys,

so I'm planning on building another Quad for myself as my ZMR250 with DYS 1806 is a bit on the slow side. Also I wanted to be safe to run 4s (1806 get a little warm for my taste on 4s/5040 props). And last but not least building is quite fun. Angel
This is not strictly a pure build thread but a discussion thread as well as I'm not 100% sure on which parts I want to use.
Planned so far:
  • Martian II 6inch frame (obviously)
  • DYS SE 2205 with 5x45x3 DALs
  • Naze Rev 6
  • X4R SB
  • MicroMinimosd
  • Matek/Realacc HubOSD - extra clean wiring (Luc from the forum made me want oneTongue)
  • HS1177
  • Eachine ET526
  • Aomway Atennas
  • 5v Matek Micro BEC (2a/tiny)
  • 12v Matek Micro BEC (2a/tiny) plus LC-filter
  • SLS Quantum 1300mAh 4S1P 14,8V 40C/80Cs (German based Lipo shop with real! C statements)
I'm not sure what to get in terms of ESC at the moment I'm looking at DYS XM 20. Are they sufficient?
Is it possible to use S.Bus and PWM at the same time? I would like to have my discovery buzzer plugged into the receiver as the buzzer on the Naze32 is really not that loud.
Anything else I should watch for or change?
Build starts whenever I've got the parts (most of them come directly form ChinaWink).

Thanks in advance for any help/ideas etc Smile.

What about the DYS XS20 or XS30 ESCs? They run Blheli S and slightly newer plus they are only a few dollars more.
Current quad: ZMR 250 / DYS SE2205 / Littlebee 20A ESCs / Drone Lab 1500 4S / Naze32 Rev5 / BF 2.7.1
FPV: Runcam Skyplus / Aomway 200mw VTX / Fatshark DomV1

Hi phara,
Part of your 1806 4S problem getting too hot is most likely attirbuted to you running 5 inch props.

Your new Build specs.

A Martian 11 6 Inch frame and you plan running 5 inch props? why not buy a Martian 2 5 inch ?

Just becareful if you do decide to run 6 inch props on those motors and more so on 4S, they will really work your Lipo hard, better off getting something like 1960 or 2000kv motors if you want to use 6 inch props.

Personally I do not like the Martian/Alien PDB's, better off using a really good PDB like the Demon Core, which has a 12 volt and 5 volt BEC built in, plus line filters for your fpv gear.and can be wired up to your minim OSD....See Scottys Tutorial here http://intofpv.com/t-micro-minimosd-wiri...and-tricks

as for ESC's, the norm used to be 20amp  (mainly due to how nice and small they are, but now, 30 amp Blheli-S esc's are almost as small and provide you with more overhead should you ever require it.  Aikon 30's and DYS XS 30's are just 2 that spring to mind for me.

Everything else seems fine to me.

I've used both the DYS SE2205-2300kv and the 2550kv motors and found that the 2550kv do not like 5045 props at all. so in my opinion you should go with the 2300kv motors.

These above 2 posts pretty much covered everything Smile
I would avoid Naze32 Rev6.. Get a F3 FC with MPU6000 SPI or MPU6050 Smile
MPU is the Gyro/ACC sensor, Rev6 has MPU6500 which is famous for being noisy and constitutes to bad flight performance.

for a list of FC here: https://oscarliang.com/250-mini-quad-part-list-fpv/#fc

Thanks for the replies!

I know I'm going a little bit to hard on those 1806 motors but its fun Smile. Will change them when my spares will be burned.

Why did I go with the 6inch Martian? - It was a gift from a friend who didn't want it anymore so thats why I chose this. But I'll get the shorter arms and then it's effectively a 220 sized Quad.
Why do I use the Naze Rev6? - Again got two of them lying around so I'll use them. And did not have any problems so farTongue - lucky me.
I want to use the DYS 2300kv motors and hopefully I'm not over-propping those.

The Demon Core in combination with the OSD looks promising but comes at a price. I'm not sure what I will do - shipping should not take to long so I do have some time to think about Smile.
The DYS XS 20/30 look very promising and I've considered those too, are there any numbers on the burst rating other than "high current"?
Also the Littlebee 30 A S look promising and are a little bit cheaperWink. I think I'll go for 30a  ESC then.

Just a little update:

Somehow it is possible that my pre-ordered item is on backorderTongue. So I'll have to wait a little longer for my Eachine ET526 VTX.

Also I've decided to go with the DYS XS30 though I have not yet found a burst current rating. 30amps should be enough though Smile.

Contacted the Banggood support and they told me the following:

The Eachine ET526 VTX is able to supply 500mA on 5v, seems plenty to me.
The DYS XS30 burst up to 40a - again plenty of headroomWink.

Finally my VTX has been shipped. Will be here in 7 business days I hope. ESC are on their way too but will take a little longer (VTX was the only thing I paid express shipping for).

Finally most of my parts arrived, still waiting for all correct ESCs (Banggood sent me two DYS XMS30 instead of the ordered XS30- still some waiting Doh)

Here are some recent pictures of my build:

As you can see I used the HubOSD instead of the Martian PDB. As I wanted it to look a bit more green and less red I've put the plastic cover over the PDB. "Painted" the PDB with liquid tape.

Only thing to date I don't like is the bag full of screws. Looks a bit disgusting, also some screws were a bit rusty Dodgy.
Hopefully I'll get my ESCs soon Smile.
