Just finished building my new quad. Almost all the parts were moved from my previous build which was a martian (R.I.P.) so only the frame and FPV camera are actually new. Here some photos It was quite challenging to fit everything in such a small frame. Parts: QAV-X 4mm SP Racing F3 Evo XM20A RS2205 2600kv FrSky XSR RunCam Swift TS5823 200mW Aomway antenna EDIT: new photos Posts: 918 Threads: 83 Likes Received: 533 in 271 posts Likes Given: 498 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 30 Very neat and tidy, good job • Posts: 195 Threads: 8 Likes Received: 86 in 54 posts Likes Given: 79 Joined: Aug 2016 Reputation: 6 Thanks! i spent a ridiculous amount of time with the cables but when i realised that it was already too late to give up Now fingers crossed for Betaflight 3.0 stable to be ready before the weekend • Posts: 391 Threads: 23 Likes Received: 50 in 41 posts Likes Given: 56 Joined: Feb 2016 Reputation: 8 Nice build, braided cables always looks good. Really nice build! it's like a show quad! Too bad Aomway doesn't make black or purple antennas There is one thing I am a bit concerned of, and that is actually your antenna placement. In a crash, it looks like it will be a lot of bending force on the SMA plug on the vtx or the antenna connector, am I right? Is it any space over the FC to move the VTX a little bit forward and fasten the antenna on the other side of the connector with a cable tie? On the other hand, it's far to nice to be crashed • Posts: 172 Threads: 21 Likes Received: 60 in 32 posts Likes Given: 56 Joined: Jun 2016 Reputation: 3 What is that purple wire? Now I have the excuse I needed to get a set of TBS Triumph I've been considering - the Aomway doesn't match the color of my quad... I'm concerned with the antenna as well. Unfortunately that was the only way I could make room for the receiver for the time being. I prefer to use pins rather than direct solder to the FC but that takes valuable space in this tiny frame. I'm waiting for 90 degree pins and will do this mod to make some extra room for the RX on top of the FC and then will attach the antenna with zip ties and the VTX the way it's suggested in the QAV-X's manual. It should look like this in the end: It's funny that on the official build manual from Lumenier they included everything except for the RX, maybe they also couldn't fit it (25-Aug-2016, 11:40 PM)Xtopher98 Wrote: What is that purple wire? Its so cool! That's braided cable sleeving, super cheap on AliExpress or BG: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/factory-s...85528.html For the build I used 2mm except for the power cable where I used the sleeve from an old PC power supply (which is a bit too big but will do the job). I must warn anyone that wants to do this though, it requires a lot of time and patience! • Posts: 102 Threads: 13 Likes Received: 10 in 8 posts Likes Given: 9 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 3 Nice build! Yeah, maybe they had a hard time getting it to fit! Can I ask why you prefer pins over direct soldering? you see, I was just like you before, until I one day went out of my comfort zone and soldered those signal cables directly, and after that I prefer direct soldering. I have so much more room when doing this . Maybe you can put some of that purple braded cable protector on your aomway antenna cable and spraypaint the lobes black or something? I have no idea if spraypainting your antenna would have any bad effect on your signal, but I wouldn't think so. Maybe a half ping pong ball as an antenna protector? • Posts: 1,290 Threads: 67 Likes Received: 713 in 473 posts Likes Given: 1,216 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 23 What is the purpose of the braided covering...other then it looks good (and it does)...... How will they perform with the emax 2600kV? I thought they had a bit too much pitch for such a high kV motor? • Posts: 195 Threads: 8 Likes Received: 86 in 54 posts Likes Given: 79 Joined: Aug 2016 Reputation: 6 (26-Aug-2016, 05:46 PM)oyvinla Wrote: Haha! Honestly I never tried direct solder because I like the flexibility of quickly removing the cables if I need to swap the FC or just reach under it. I may try it on the next build. I got only 2mm braid unfortunately, it's too thin for the antenna. (26-Aug-2016, 06:06 PM)sirdude Wrote: What is the purpose of the braided covering...other then it looks good (and it does)...... That's pretty much it. It may just add a bit of extra protection if a cable gets in the way of a wild prop but that's all. (26-Aug-2016, 06:15 PM)oyvinla Wrote: Are those 5045 Dalprops? KingKong 5045, saw them being recommended here in the forum and they're cheap compared to most reputable brands so I decided to give it a try. Just got them this week so I haven't had the change to try them much, just a quick LOS and they seem OK but we'll see. • Posts: 1,070 Threads: 70 Likes Received: 742 in 378 posts Likes Given: 577 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 44 (27-Aug-2016, 09:29 AM)tozes Wrote: KingKong 5045, saw them being recommended here in the forum and they're cheap compared to most reputable brands so I decided to give it a try. But keep in mind that this combo can still be a lipo killer • Posts: 195 Threads: 8 Likes Received: 86 in 54 posts Likes Given: 79 Joined: Aug 2016 Reputation: 6 (27-Aug-2016, 10:46 AM)Konrad Stepanajtys Wrote: KingKong 5045 have less punch then DALs, so they should be fine. Maybe it's time to get a set of 30A with blheli_s support. What would you guys recommend? Since I'm quite happy with the xm20a, the xs30a would be a no brainer but I see some good feedback about the littlebees and the aikon as well • Posts: 918 Threads: 83 Likes Received: 533 in 271 posts Likes Given: 498 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 30 (27-Aug-2016, 01:34 PM)tozes Wrote: At the moment I got mostly Tattu 1300 4S 75C packs so they should provide enough juice I do worry about the 20A ESCs though...
