Airpix AP-5
#1
I am not sponsored or supported by anyone for the reviews I do, everything I use I purchase myself.

So, with that out of the way, I want to share my views on the Airpix AP-5 quad. (lol, in my eagerness to build it I never took any happy snaps)

I purchased the kit from http://www.airpixfpv.com/ap180/4df845ae-...51708a9add for $80

Aussie's can buy it here, https://www.multirotorshop.com.au.  Tell Bernard Biggles sent you. Big Grin  (and that way he will charge you more..LOL)  Kidding.

The kit arrives in a nicely package satchel.
All the parts are high end 3K pure Toray carbon fibre, and the hardware is high quality steel and aluminium.

This is an X-Frame design and the arms are all interchangable, which makes things much nicer if you happen to break one, which while possible is unlikely as they are 4mm thick.

The frame goes together really easy and everything has a nice snug fit, no sloppiness at all..very nice.

Tech Specs:

  • 220mm motor to motor for 5" props support.

  • DemonCore V2.2 PDB (optional).

  • Compatible with all 36x36mm flight controllers (30.5mm mounting holes).

  • Pure 4mm 3K Toray carbon fiber arms.

  • Pure 2mm 3K Toray carbon fiber plates.

  • 2204/5/6 motors mounting holes (16x19mm)

  • HS1177 (or similar) FPV camera mounts.

  • Nylon spacers for FC and PDB mounting.

  • High quality steel and aluminum hardware.

  • 2xLipo Velcro straps (with silicone surface) and 1x"remove before flight" keychain are included.

  • Set of DYS X50403 props (2 pairs)

  • Free 3D printable files - HD camera mounts (GoPro like and RunCam like), Landing pads and XT-60 connector housing.

  • Skids color may be different than it's shown.

  • Weight: 130gr (Including hardware).

I have several box like X frame designed quads but the AP-5 wins hands down.

There really isn't a whole lot more to say about it, it just works, very stylish, very tough when built.

Man! I wake up 10 minutes ago on July 20, pour a cup of coffee, and you've already had a beautiful flight like that - I am so envious!

Really really nice (build and flight).

Just WOW Biggles. First few seconds of flight left me speechless for the rest of the video. This quad is gaining so much speed and it seems that it's doing it with little to no effort at all... Now I want those motors or similar KV ones so bad...
Find me on Youtube and Instagram. I currently fly: DRC Aura, NOX5R, Minimalist 112 and drive a scrap RC car

Thanks Konrad, huge praise indeed.  Those motors are pretty awesome, But there is a trade off, Swinging 5 inch triples do tax the lipo, but ohhhhh so worth it. Big Grin

Thanks sirdude, yeah, those sneaky ninja bushes jump out at you, sometimes it is hard to see the finer branches and well, you plough through them.

Damn that looks fast!
How would you rate the frame compared to the speed addict 210-r?

Ohhhhhh, tough call.  Both are excellent. In terms of ease of build the AP-5 wins, in terms of quality, pretty much on par, slight edge to the Addict 210R, not to say the AP-5 is in any way bad, far from it.

My preference for flying is (and being honest) is whichever one I grab in the bundle of 4 quads I take to the field at any given time. I try and alternate quads so they all feel loved. Big Grin .

Cannot go wrong with either frame. but excellent.

How did you go about mounting the RX antennas at the back of yours Biggles? On my AP-5, I'm having trouble keeping them away from the props. Looks like you've got an extra part on the back of yours holding the antennas away from the frame that I don't have. Any chance of seeing a close up pic, and/or some more details on what you've done there?

Thanks,
Jim.
