Airpix Airhog 180
#1
The first thing you notice about this frame is how solid the arms are, and for good reason they are 4mm thick.
The whole frame is made from 3K carbon fiber, and not the cheap “pretend” looking carbon fibre either.

The pack consists of :

Top plate 1.5mm thick
Middle plate 1.5mm thick
Bottom plate 1.5mm thick
4mm thick front bumper
4mm thick rear bumper.
20 degree fpv cam mount
15 degree HD camera plate
Demon core PDB *
Of course the kit comes with all the screws , nuts and aluminium standoffs that you require to complete the build.

The build is very straight forward and should be no problem for a beginner and a breeze for anyone who has built a quad or 2.

My Build:

The build of the frame took me perhaps 10 minutes to finger tight stage.
There is was nothing that stood out as being a moment where I felt a build manual would have come in handy.
Plenty of room to Fit the PDB, RX and FC stacked. and no problem fitting the VTX and hard wired lipo alarm.

Specs:
Dragonfly 2206-2800kV motors
24 amp Kiss ESC.
PowerOSD pro PDB
XracerF303 flight controller
HS1177 FPV cam
Bocam 32 Channel  200mW mini VTX
4S 1300mAh 45C, 60C, 75C Lipos
DAL 4045bn Triples
Hard wired Matek Lipo alarm
Frysky TFR4SB RX
Futaba 14SG Radio.

The motors and esc’s are not exactly small and yet I managed to get the motors and esc’s on the stumpy thick little arms without too much trouble.  Fitting of Littlebee 20amp or similar sized would be no effort at all.  Bear in mind, Should you choose something like Littlebees 30 amps, they will not fit.

As I opted for a cased FPV cam the supplied carbon bracket in the frame kit was not required.
I did find that mounting the HS1177 cam in it’s own cradle to the middle/bottom plates to be a bit harder than anticipated as there is not enough area to attach the HS1177 bracket without perhaps drilling a hole (and you do not want to do that on such a nice frame ) , I could have easily mounted it from the top plate but that then would interfere with my plans for the GoPro Mount I made for this build.
So In the end I downloaded a HS1177 3D .sti file from Thingsiverse and tried that.  A little bit of tweaking and fits great.

The supplied angled HD plate works well enough even if the angle puts undue pressure on the front nylon standoffs, and besides, for most, 15 degrees tilt is just not enough, so I made my own 25 degree mount.

What you do notice about this frame is how rigid it is with 8 aluminium standoffs and the 3 plates, coupled with the thick front and rear bumper and lovely thick arms. It is a frame that in my view was designed around being tough , if that was the intent, they have got it right.

Here is my completed Build.

AUW weight of 617 grams.  Yes she is a Hefer,  But is no slow coach.  What it may lack in top end it makes up for by smashing it's way through stuff.

This frame will not appeal to everyone, but if you are after a very well constructed frame that can take huge hits and keep on going then this is worth looking at.

At $80.99 US it is not cheap, but quality never is.

I have several 180 sized quads, and this Airhog 180 is a welcomed addition to my fleet.

Notes:
* At time of writing Airpix have released a new PDB and it is quite possible it may be part of the new kits . we shall see Smile
The Blue Standoffs, Gopro mount and FPV cam mount seen on my build are not part of the Kit.
Will be upgrading to KISS FC, why?..because I can  Cool
