advice on receiver location
#1
I have a aero-tek j'mini cricket (180mm) and I am cleaning up the wiring.
I really do not like the receiver sideways (see pic #2) and it will eventually interfere with the camera.

I am trying to place it aligned with the frame.  Only location it fits clean is on top but not quite on the centerline (see pic #1).

Comments?
Thoughts?
Suggestions?

Will it off-line throw off the quad?  Any other advice on a location?

Cheers!

RX is so light, that it hardly matters. You can depin it and solder a servo wire directly to its board.

like Konrad said the location doesn't matter that much... but keep these points in mind:

Try to avoid exposing your RX connectors outside of the frame, in case they get damage in crashes,
keep away from VTX if possible (normally not an issue though but good practice)
make sure antenna wires don't get sucked in by props.

Thank you.

Up top it is exposed.
Sideways the connectors stick out.

Never thought I would say this ... the d4r is a bit too big....

Strip it, depin it, and heat srink will greatly reduce it's size... And a little weight too

it should be alright if you can turn it 90 degree, with the header pins facing in?
then secure the antenna wires with zip tie and heatshrink tubes on the top plate...

Yeah, I saw some pics of this.  Looks good except I will need to move it again when I add FPV and my soldering skills are quite sloppy.

Rotating is good ... I had it at 90° before and the connectors stuck out the side ... kept getting knocked off in the trees.
Gonna try having it up front with the connectors inside.  Open it and rotate the antenna wires so they point out each side (make a slot in the cardboard to feed them through).  Two wings on either side with tubes for the antenna.  The pdb is mounted to a vertical wall mid-way on the quad so I cannot slide the rx any further back.
I'm hoping that any nose impact will not cause too much trouble.

And another headache when it has to move again for the FPV camera.

Took me a second to realize you were saying "de-pin". I was wondering what that heck depin was.. hehe
