Add Picture-in-Picture to FPV
#1
Does anyone have any ideas for how to go about adding a picture-in-picture feed to the on screen display of a set of goggles? The idea is to add some awareness to what is happening around me while wearing goggles.  Ideally, the PiP would be one or more wireless body cameras.  For example, so I could see my kid running at me before he jumps on my back!  I am open to just about anything, but this is my current equipment for reference.

○ Fat Shark HD02 goggles
○ RapidFIRE Goggle Module (RFIRE01)
○ Lumenier AXII 2 5.8GHz Antenna
○ Lumenier AXII Patch Antenna

I have looked at a 3D & 2D multi-view 4-channel picture-in-picture FPV system and wondered if I could cobble together some kind of hack to attach it to my goggles and make it work.  Before I get adventurous and start spending any money I thought I would post what I am trying to do here first for ideas.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Don't think it is possible with any current goggles.

The tech is not at that level of maturity yet. We are still crying for good video feed Smile

Has anyone ever used the Otus 3DM 3D & 2D FPV multi-view system before? This system is the closest thing I can find for something off-the-shelf , but they seem to be out of stock everywhere. It seems like the technology is out there, but nobody has packaged it all together quite like what I am looking for.

If you can drag your laptop around then one way is to:

- Get a RCA video to usb capture device
- Get a Dock-King LITE Ground Station
- Get a few usb cams

Connect it all to your laptop and use something like (maybe but I am not sure) OBS to setup the layout and connect your goggles to laptop via hdmi.

The latency will be your biggest hurdle here.

It may also be possible to do this on a Raspberry PI instead of a laptop.

Again, just some ideas.

Anytime you have to merge video signals together with external equipment and then feed that merged signal into a pair of goggles, the additional latency induced by doing that is going to make the model unflyable by FPV.

It is all fun and games until the L-word starts getting thrown around. The best I can think of right now is to challenge Elon Musk on Twitter with this while questioning his manhood...then wait for his team of engineers to arrive at a solution. Meanwhile, I will keep thinking about this.
