Acro settings?
#1
Any tips for getting into acro flying? What about racing? What rates should I start out with? I just finished UAVfutures 99 build (Lisam 210, 2205 motors, 20a esc, 1800 4s lipo, CC3D  for now, 5045x3 props) and I want to get better at flying in acro. Thanks!

Practise.

Get a smaller battery.

Upgrade your flight controller.

More practise.

Practice

As long as you're using that heavy battery, you may want to think about backing your props off to 5040x3.  Don't think you would notice the loss in performance at this stage and it may give you slightly more air time.

What battery should I get? Also, what FC should I get too? Thanks for the quick reply!

Thanks! What is the difference between 5045 and 5040 props? Is there any major difference? How much more air time would I get? Sorry, I'm a noob at FPV now.

Practice in a sim also! Don't change rates until you are very familiar with the handling of your quadcopter.

Start here, it will answer questions you didn't even consider.

As for props read this, https://www.propwashed.com/miniquad-prop...ers-guide/
Flying: Talon 6S 6" 2407s 381g no bat, Martian 3, 5" 2205s sooo heavy + gopro session 5 573g AUW, Aurora 5" 2205s 280g no bat, Druckbaer 3" 1404s 172g AUW 3S 550, BQE Megapixel 2.5" 1107s 139g AUW 3S 550, BabyHawk R 2.5" 164g AUW 3S 550 (stock except microeagle, CRSF, 2.5" arms) and maybe 3 more, for now...

The difference is pitch.  The 5045 has more pitch then the 5040.  The more pitch it has the more power it takes to to spin it at an equivalent rpm as a prop of a lesser pitch.  The 5045 will develop more thrust then the 5040, but at your current skill level I doubt it'll do you any good.  By requiring less power to spin at a given rpm, it will not drain the battery as fast, thus longer flight times.  Now, all that said...pitch and prop size vs. battery size is a balancing act.  As you improve you'll find that sweet spot for prop size and pitch and battery size.   I cant tell you what will work best, every quad is different.  The quads weight has a lot to do with it and yes the bigger battery is heaver then say a 1300 mah.  You may find it doesn't make a whole lot of difference, but for me, it would be worth a shot.  Good luck!

For a 210 sized quad, a 1300mA/h 4S battery or, at a push 1500mA/h is a much better weight.

A battery that is too heavy for the craft will give you poor handling.

If you have already built your quad, don't worry about a different flight controller for now. Save that until your next build. The old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is good advice.

I agree with this. Start with DRL since it's free and when you're new they're all about the same with slightly different handling characteristics.

Try out the trainings in the sim but don't worry too much about them. I couldn't finish all of the training modules until I had a few months of experience. Instead set small goals for yourself. Start with something like learning how to hover

Here is a good video on hovering:

The next thing I'd say... search the internet obsessively. When you want to know about batteries, look up "race quad batteries" on google. When you want to get better at understanding how propeller specs are listed search "quadcopter propellers". (That last one has a great article at the top from a guy we all really like around here https://oscarliang.com/choose-propellers-mini-quad/ )

The other thing... don't let the barriers to entry chase you off... keep at it and as the others have said practice practice practice. Bust up a virtual quad more than the real thing first though... it'll save you a ton of time doing repairs.
