A short story where I got out smarted
#1
So I get together with 8 other guys once a month to smoke cigars and drink scotch.  All of these guys are crusty old farts like me and are veterans.  All branches of the US military are represented, except Coast Guard, and are they even a branch of the military? Big Grin (military humor).

Some of these guys are military pilots.  One guy is a helicopter pilot, and two of them are jet pilots and now private pilots.

As you can imagine they give me crap about referring to flying drones as being a pilot.  We find any reason to give the others crap, and my drone flying is just low hanging fruit.  All these guys wear various military hats, me included, but the pilots wear pilot related hats of course.

So as a way to mess with them, my wife came up with the idea to make a drone related hat for me to wear to our monthly meeting instead of my usual submarine hats.  She embroidered me a hat and so I was ready to go.  I shared with one of the other guys in the group who isn't a pilot what I was going to do.  He thought it would be good for a few chuckles.  You can see the hat my wife made below.

Well, telling my friend what I was going to do was a bad plan.  He came up with his own idea to make a bigger splash at the meeting.

As I got to the meeting place and came around the corner with my drone hat on, I see the rest of these fools wearing the propeller beanies like below.  It was pretty funny. Big Grin

I wanted to get their pictures, but they all belong to the tinfoil hat club and didn't want their pics on the internet.... Dodgy

Moral to the story, don't trust anyone ever, not even your friends, cuz they will look for a way to get ya!!

I am not an old fart yet, but would love to sit around smoking cigar and drink whiskey. Any favorite whiskey?

I like a single malt scotch that is very smokey.  My 2 faves are Ardbeg and Laphroaig.

If not scotch, then a quality anejo tequila is my next choice.

I see. I used to like the Peet, but not so much anymore. I got into the Japanese whiskey a few years ago before it blew up. Now I can't find Japanese whiskey anymore. And if I do, prices have gone up like crazy. Exploring bourbon and the domestic stuff.

I used to love bourbon.  But many years ago in my youth I got very very drunk on it.  Even today if I smell it I get nauseated.

Have you taken any of them on a "ride-along" on one of your LR flights? That might make them come around...Smile

No ride-alongs, but they have seen videos.  A couple of them are somewhat impressed, but the pilots scoff at them.   All very predictable.  Big Grin
