1 The thread on battery discharge and disposal got me to thinking. I know that is dangerous but it does happen..
I've only seen 2 LiPo fires in real life. Both were heavily modded Airsoft AEGs. Neither was a total loss of the weapons but it was a stinky mess.
I am not advocating doing this but if a 3s or 4s was placed on the ground and left there in the elements what are the chances of a catastrophic event ocuring with the battery?
Sitting in the sun and rain with no other external forces would the battery go off or just slowly discharge into nothing? How about in winter where you have cold temperatures and the likelihood of freezing precipitation?
I know that the battery COULD have issues but what is the likelihood of smoke and fire? Just curious

100 a lipo might not heatup enough in tve sun to get into trouble, it might not give true damage by cold temperature.
not in use and not allready physicly damaged, the pack will be a bad thing for the nature and a bad thing for fpv and rc reputation.
if it gets physical damage and stores energy, there is a risk for a fire. falling trees, mashines or animals could do physical damge.
we should pick up any pack, we should use umagrip and decent lipostraps... use the full magic :-) to hide long seeching actions :-)

786 Nothing will happen. The highest risk is when pumping voltage into a Lithium battery during charging due to the chemical reaction that occurs during that process. A battery just sitting there won't just go off unless the casing is breached
Just think about how many lithium battery powered devices we use in our lives, mostly laptops, tablets, and phones. Not to mention electric vehicles with an enormous array if lithium batteries in them. Out of millions of those devices how many fires do we see or hear about? Yes, we do see some (mainly from dodgy Chinese electric scooters), but not what I would call a concerning amount.

I kinda thought that might be the issue but, like I said, sometimes I just have questions about things around me. Y’all have had a lot more experience than I with LiPo batteries than I have. Most of the lithium based batteries in our life are LiIon
Thanks for confirming my suspicions
