A couple equipment questions...
#1
Hey guys, new to the hobby and the forum. Been in RC all my life, and recently got into flying drones for photography, but now I'm taking the leap into FPV. I've done a ton of research and watched a bunch of YouTube videos and bit the bullet the other night and ordered the Eachine Wizard X220 ARF. From what I've learned it's one heck of a quad for the price. Now onto my questions...

1) I was thinking about buying the FlySky 6 channel radio and receiver, then remembered that I have a new in the box DX6i (although I bought it 5 or 6 years ago). Is this radio up-to-date enough to use for my quad?  If it is what kind of receiver do I want to buy to use with it? The one with the FlySky was basically just a printed circuit board, not at all what I'm used to seeing in my RC trucks, and planes when I stopped flying about 10 years ago.

2) Is there anything else besides the quad, radio/receiver, and my FPV gear that I need to buy? (Obviously excluding lots of batteries)

Thanks in advance!! I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions as I go, especially once my Wizard actually shows up.

i don't think you will be able to connect DX6i to flysky receiver - please validate with smarter people (who have dx6i) or with google... just o be sure.

as for missing items:
- camera ? you didn't mention it but most of us like to document the "omg omg omg it worked" and "ooo Poop "
- soldering iron - you will break stuff
- solder - as you will want to put it back together
- third hand - if you are not a sniper and your hands are not rock solid
All the best

Grisha is correct, DX6i and Flysky use different protocols. However, it doesn't look like the Wizard ARF comes with a receiver, so you will have to add that anyway. The DX6i is a nicer radio (IMHO), so I would use that. You will however need to add a DSM receiver.

You will want to check the documentation to see, but most F3's will accept a Spektrum satellite (or compatible - I use LemonRx satellites). And Yes, even though it's older, the 6i should work fine. Just be aware, it will only give you 6 channels so you may have to be creative with the switches. (I can't remember for sure, but if those are 3 position switches, the extra 2 channels will give you 6 options controllable by switch.)

Thanks for the info. I do have a GoPro already, I'll just have to get some sort of mount to mount it to the quad. I've actually got everything to solder too, as I do a lot of soldering for my RC trucks, so I'm good to go there.

Here are the switches on my transmitter (no 3 positions) Gear, Elevator D/R, Flap, Aileron D/R, Rudder D/R, and Mix. All are two position switches.

Couple more questions from your answer.... What is an F3? And what do you mean by Spektrum satellite?

Gear and Flap are the only switches you will be able to use - so that will give you 4 options.  I have a 6-channel Rx on a micro quad and I have the extra 2 channels set up on switches to give me Arm - Failsafe - Horizon - Airmode.  (You could use stick arming instead of on a switch.)

F3 is the type of flight controller you have.  Google on how to add a spektrum satellite to your flight controller - someone has probably done it before for that FC.

Here is the satellite I use on most of my quads: https://www.readymaderc.com/store/index....ts_id=5018

(You might check your stock, you might have gotten an Rx that also had a satellite receiver with it.)

One other note: The only gotcha to connecting a spektrum or lemonrx to a flight controller is that you have to get 3.3V from the FC. Banggood sells a satellite that will accept 5v. With one of those, you can connect it to a typical SBUS port. They are cheap, and I've got one, but I haven't tested it thoroughly yet.

Thanks for all the info guys!!! I'm sure once my quad actually arrives I'll have some more questions, but that should get me started for now. Thanks again!

One more quick question actually.... I watch a lot of YouTube videos and see that a lot of guys have a tripod beside them or close by with something on top.  What is it?

If you're anything like me, you'll have ground station soon. I was just on GetFPV a few minutes ago ordering a dozen bullet connectors. 200 bucks later................

I use a DX6i with my quad and it's great. Instead of the the telemetry which the Taranis offers I use an OSD.
Current quad: ZMR 250 / DYS SE2205 / Littlebee 20A ESCs / Drone Lab 1500 4S / Naze32 Rev5 / BF 2.7.1
FPV: Runcam Skyplus / Aomway 200mw VTX / Fatshark DomV1
