4inch popularity - market support
#1
why is the marketsupport on 4inch that much poor? is this only about popularity or are ther some technical reasons? (i now or thought an evolution in 5“ motors was bigger bearings, but is this the reason?)

since i start, i fell in love with 4inch but the rare options break my heart a bit. i own and fly more other settups :-( the t-motor 1408 „low kv 3250“ i decide for 4“ dont impress me on 4“ and i prefer 3inch, they spin 3inch that much better. the torque seems to be to low. there are e few motors; i can still try but not much options. somewhere is a lag, 1806 with over 3000kv seems not existing, i can not beleive why..

A lot of it has to do with weight. Most countries are now introducing weight limits and the 4" quads are simply not going to be able to fall below the limits without major compromises. 3" frames can often be made to fall under 250g and it would appear that development efforts have been focused there by the number of 3" frames that are being introduced.

This is just my guess really.

OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun!  Addicted :)

DYS makes an 1806 motor, but nothing over 2700KV. I'm about to try them on my lightweight 5" build, tried the 2550KV previously. I have also tried noname 2006 motors. The new Emax 1606's look promising, could work well on a 4" as they have a 3300 and 4000KV option.

I have 1408 Armattan 3800kv on a 4in. Those motors are pretty powerful.

I think 4 inch do not really have a identity. It is a in between size. 4 inch started with 18xx-22xx motors. But Catalyst Machineworks and Armattan made the 13xx-14xx popular on 4 inch. Because of the motors difference, making frames can be difficult. I like 4 inch quads, I have two quads. Catalyst machineworks and Armattan have pretty good motors for 4 inch.

the 1606 emax and the brotherhobby 1506 or xnova1804 3500kv are allready on my focus for a next 4“. bit for 180x there are no choices. on my first 4“ i use 1306kinkong 3100kv on hq4043 i get good results to the point of sag and motorheat, they had well thrust to spin the 4“. i thought with the 1408 i couldnt make a mistake.. and i can technical not understand why my old fashion 10dollar kingkong can have more thrust. my thought was going for a even bigger motors like 1806 would be save, or the right size for 4inch about torque and max thrust. i saw a build with 1408 2400kv xrotor with 6s - (it was 254g with the battery https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjWN2RHW...e=youtu.be ) - i like to try but fare about motortemp and durability... some issues.. and invest in small 6s batterys will bother my budget.

the armattan 1408 on 4“, thanks for the personaly recommandation. if you could post a dvr would be intresting.

very sad in my eyes [development efforts have been focused by 3“]
the otherside of this card is that, the ultralight 4“ cultur living in countries with 250g limitations, germany have some awesome frames; „potzblitz“ or „duckbear“.
the ones which could fly perfect 4“ settups regardless of 250g doesnt use 4“ because the marketsupport is bad and the one with limitations use a not so perfect settup (downgrades of ultralights) to get the max in the limitations. it feels paradox and ironic to me, this bother me.

4“ have a very big difference in propsurface in comparison to 3“. its more near to 5inch. there could be very fast settups (in theory, or in my theory) which can beat 5“ in many fly areas (and in fly dynamics and characteristics, i guess)
what i like additionally, is 4“ is also powerfull and fast (or could be) and its a lot more silent and less dangerous. to find a spot where no one cares about seems to be much more easy. its also more cheap and efficiency is very well. batterys are nearly half price.

there are influencer like kabab, they could change the market support. toothpicks is the „name“ of this class, not ultralight nanoquads - its a toothpick. i flew a pnp bat-100 1s 30g toothpick but bevor it calls toothpick, it flew awesome but only 10minutes. the esc was fright firstime aprop was block by something while try to start, in one second. the parts had issues at this time. now it seems there are alot more promising parts.
should there only be a famous person who recommend the size and the support will arrive? its only a question about custumer wishes? prop passion loose against trend :-(

i really hope more factorys could produce 180x as 4s settup and as a 6s settup and a famous person could make it trendy by recommondation. its one of my biggest dreams, nowing whats possible with 4“ in terms of racing when optimze to a „perfect settup“ and build one by myself

4 inch is plenty fast on 14xx-15xx motors. You can build a 4 inch 6S quad right now if you want. There are a few 14xx-15xx 6s motors out there.

there are possibilities and i like to try, but because of invest in 6s isnt healty for my budget, i try to research about durability motortemp... downsides or benefits... impressions about to be sure it work well, or knowing what i will get but i dont find allready, if you know informations about 140x settup on 6s, impressions about use over time, thank you for post a link.

i like to try alot settups but its a bit out of range at the moment because of budget and because i have to choose one and dont know exactly what i get, im struggeling with decision and hope for better market or more informations about settups, specially on 6s but also for other 4“ settups. i choosed the tmotor 1408 but i did a mistake with them on 4“.
i will try to research about 15xx 6s motors, i allready dont know anything in this size for 6s.

Not much is written for 4 inch 6S. You are not going to find long term reviews on any motors let alone a niche motors. Like anything new, you just have to take the plunge. I am pretty sure 4inch 6S will fly like a 4inch 4S with little sag.

one of the fastest pnp is the diatone gtr349, would be very nice if a brand close the gap, produce a 4“. diatone produce that much, would be nice if they close, i thrust to them; they could produce one less than 250g with battery. 3“ is still going more popular probably this is hope.

[I am pretty sure 4inch 6S will fly like a 4inch 4S with little sag.] this and a littlebit more torque in all throttle position, which allows a bit more precision is what i mention should result in theory and what i am looking for.
