Hi All. Would love for someone to do a sanity check on the following DIY build. New to the scene and frankly need some advice before I order. I like the challenge with a DIY (I can solder and have OK electronics knowledge). My budget is around $400AUD as it stands right now so hopefully parts are good and up to date.
At first glance the motors seem a bit narrow. I fly motors that are 2206/2306 (meaning the diameter is wider than the 1806s). Perhaps you have a reason for going with narrower motors though?
Also is there any reason you're using a micro FC rather than a full size 36x36 FC? I don't think the micro flight controller will fit in the martian II... Perhaps consider getting an all in one flight controller that also has the PDB built in so that you can have less components. Something more like this. Although, note I have no experience with the FC I posted, it's just one I found that looks decent. It'll cost you an extra 10-20 bucks beyond what you'd pay for a separate cheapy FC and PDB but it'll be easier to work with and take up less space in the build.
With props, the lumeniers are great, but I wouldn't pay that much for props of any kind in the beginning. Try to see if you can get ahold of some Dal Cyclones or standard props. They're as resiliant as the lumenier props but they're cheaper and you don't have to hassle with spacers and stuff.
The receiver makes me a little nervous by saying FrSky & Eachine... a real XSR should cost about the same although I can't find the old ones on Banggood. Maybe they've sold them all?
On the two questions, you don't need them if you're going to fly FPV. Even if you did get them it wouldn't work unless you had a camera. If you're going to wait to go FPV then might as well wait to get those components as well.
I hope I haven't made things more difficult for you, and hopefully someone will come by and check my advice and give more advice of their own.
good luck with your first build! It sounds like you're on the right track!

Hey MicD I don't have any experience with 5" but...
Gotta agree with Carl, about the 20x20 FC, (not sure that the frame is going to take it?) and those DYS motors are ringing some serious alarm bells for me, they are really quite old and have never had particularly great reviews.
Emax red bottoms aren't new either, but they do have a proven record... These are motors for the Eachine V-tail which had terrible reviews, but they are still Emax red bottoms, not bad for about $45 USD.
IMO this set of T-motor Air 40's for $55, is probably the best deal for a 5" motor on BG right now, (personally I like purple)!
Never used them but T-motor are a well recognized brand in the hobby...
Oscar has posted a great cheap 1st timers build using the Martian frame, check it out here. Personally I would steer clear of RacerStar motors, quality seems to be quite 'hit and miss' by all accounts.
I might also consider going for a 30A ESC just in case, these are about the same price ($45 for a set)
Good luck with the build, if you have more questions just ask...
Joshua Bardwell FC, although $35,is well layout with great instructions for beginners. Which is the same cost for your FC and PDB, because you can ditch the PDB. As Carl suggested.
EMAX red bottom $29 on Ebay. But T-motors are better choice as Tom suggested.
I think the RX you suggested is a clone of XSR-M. Real XSR is good. I starting to use R-XSR, super small.
VTX with Irctramp or smartaudio is the way to go. No more pushing buttons. Also, pigtail connector is better. Coaxial soldered on tend to break easily until you get an extension.
I run Dalprops cyclones. They are durable. They bend on crashes but I have never had one break.
The Matek FC has some issue with yaw twitch. I don't have the FC myself, but the Matek thread has a lot of post regarding this issue. People attribute it to the gyro, which is super sensitive.

Oh really, what are some of the alternatives to recommend?
Joshua Bardwell FC CL RACING F4 OR F4S DYS F4 Pro V2 (be careful to not confuse with the regular Pro that was called unofficially version 2) Here is a link for pro v2 https://www.racedayquads.com/products/dy...ller-v2-fc

It was more so a thought that when I initially wanted to get into this, the budget was $200 max
