3D Printed 4” Racing Quadcopter: From Design to Maiden Flight
#1
Hi guys!

In this video we design a 3D-printed quadcopter FPV frame for brushless motors, print it, build it and take it out flying. We use 1806-size T-Motor F30 and 4045 tri-blade DalProps. During the maiden flights we try to test out the limits of this 3D-printed PLA frame to see how it can hold up to fast & acro flying. The frame itself is also available on Thingieverse for everyone.

There was a kid that would show up to the races with a frame he printed that could really take a beating but oh was it slow. The over designed stress points made it very difficult for him to access any of the electronics when something would go wrong. Your design is so simple it's making me reconsider my opinion on a 3D printed (non-brushless) frame. If the frame was designed to break apart at specified break points all you'd have to do is swap the electronics over to another frame in moments. Considering they survive.
The trees are all out to get me

Thanks guys :-). It should really be easy to replace the frame if it breaks. But I did not manage to break it so far, crashing in grass. Concrete would definitely be another matter, but there even CFK or similar frames will break if you crash. It's really stiff and can take a beating...still very happy with it :-)
