250mm Tuning

So, as I stated in welcome section I built my first quad which is the ZMR250; I have been trying to get it more "locked-in" feeling so I can advance my skills in Acro/Rate mode. I was getting alot of sway and altitude change while trying to get it to hover; Today I tried some new props, and this log will be with some 6045 props... I really liked the way it flew with these versus the Gemfan 5030 I had on originally. I also tried some 5040 3 blade HQ props before these, but the log isn't uploaded yet. If you see anything that stands out to you, just let me know.. I may be missing something diagnostic wise that I need to work on. Gonna use this thread kind of like a timeline, as I learn more I will update my PIDs here or what I have found to help out others in the same situation. I am using BlackBox to log/attempt tuning.

Oops sorry... 3S cells right now

Probably gonna have to update logs now, once I added the FPV gear onto quad the current PIDs are much worse.. I can see it oscillating in the air on hover now.. Still running those large 6045 props also. No issues with lift, but seems to be disliking the added weight.

The oscillations mainly come from D term noise, try to soft mount your FC if you can.

But to your PID values, you can try this (enter in CLI)

set d_roll = 15
set d_pitch = 20
set d_setpoint_weight = 85
save

d_setpoint_weight should make D gain more effective without introducing too much oscillations.
To be honest 6" is much harder to tune than 5"... also 4S performs much better than 3S. If you are building a new quad, 5" on 4S is the way to go.

I appreciate all your suggestions, and I will surely try that. I have seem to picked up new issue; guessing with voltage issues. I am seeing tons of "spikes" or high-freq oscillation randomly now no matter the PID. I am thinking it may be a 5V issue? Nothing has changed BUT >

Added HS1177 clone cam, Eachine VTX02, Micro MinimOSD flashed with MWOSD 1.6 for CleanFlight + hooked up to UART 2. Also a Matek Tail-Light with 8 LEDs on the 5v as well.

Tried to place the 5040 3 blade props on it (had oscillations with either prop)

Reset to default PIDs, then flew had tons of drop-out and freq spikes so I just halfed all default PIDs to eliminate that as an issue.. I am fairly sure it's going to be a 5V issue now.. You can see the freq spike in RC-Command, and you can see PID's bounce. I will be trying to modify the FC a little to make it receive less shock.

Idk... getting irritated with the FPV gear causing issues. The camera is on the 12v regulator, the rest is on the 5v.

Switched to betaflight.. seems to have much smoother gyro and PID traces than latest CF. I am impressed.

Now we will try to eliminate any issues found with the 250mm in BF. Gotta get to the drawing board.. can't fly while at work but I can research.

you are using SBUS right? so I don't think that's a voltage issue... it's digital signal so shouldn't be affected by voltage level. Could be a faulty RX.. or something wrong with your TX..

Just a guess, do you have a spare RX or spare quad you can try see if you have the same issue to rule out a few variables?

It's IBUS IA6B but I don't see the issue on the betaflight and I also re seated the FC on the pins.. left OSD MSP off until I get my new goggles.

Also ordered some soft mount for FC. I am not able to test on other quads this is my first build and the second is underway.
