150Mph Racer (Build)
#1
Hey guys/gals!

It's been a while for me, apologies for my absence... Work has been hitting me hard the past few months, but I'd like to come back with a bang!

So here's what I've been working on... A cheap, yet very quick and feature filled racer. I was approached by BangGood to review something and they gave me a budget of $150, so I proposed this racer build that costs $150 and I thought might do 150Mph. (Spoiler: it does!)

Parts list is as below:
Frame: Union Pinkee MX-218 LINK
Motors: Racerstar BR2508S 2522KV LINK
FC/ESC (Stack): Mamba F4 40A LINK
Camera: Foxeer Monster Mini Pro (2.5 Lens) LINK
VTX: Eachine TX805 LINK

And I paired it all with a R-XSR (As a PNF kit).

Here are some quick pics I snapped during the build (the mamba FC is a very tidy layout):

And then to finish things off, I made a quick video about this build, showing my speed test zone and a quick rundown on how I calculated the speed:

In conclusion, it did 154Mph, and 249 Kph, something i'm pretty proud of. Next up I think i'll redo the test maybe with some high pitch 2 blade props, and try 4s and 5s to see if I can break the DRL speed record of 184Mph.

Let me know what you think!

wow, that is really fast.. I bet that 2 blade props and 5s would go even faster as long as it holds up!

Fun stuff.  Some of the guys on the FB page are doing what they call the 1 mile challenge.  That consists of one mile out, a mile back to the start point as fast as possible.  The fastest guys are running speeds in the area you are and for sustained periods.  They are pulling huge amps, and really stressing the ESCs and motors.  There are components that just can't hang.  Some of the videos are pretty entertaining.

Good luck on your quest for the speed record!

Nice! I too have a powerful and aero friendly drone, but I haven't had the chance to really pound it.

If you plan on upgrading you should look into Ryan's Quadstar Arx frames. They weigh around 50g and are pretty tough

Maybe we should have a fastest quad contest on the server?
